Re: Not exactly sure how ASV interfaces with FS9

Featured Replies

I am looking to see if I am in fact the cause of a couple of things that keep happening with ASV. But before that the authors of ASV, FSEnvironment, and UT-USA need to be congratulated for what, at least in my opinion, the best upgrade to FS9 I have seen. One thing is the often mentioned hazy conditions-it must be said that the recent real weather (at least for eastern half of the US) has been causing a lot of real haze recently. The other thing I get sometimes I do not read that much in the applicable forums-sort of my own special little deal. That would be on the ground at night when the ramp and my aircraft get too dark too see.Somewhere a few weeks ago there was a thread that looked at how ASV could input textures and weather features into FS9. There is an opportunity to send texture sets to FS9-I think this requires startng ASV first and then starting FS9. But since the online mode allows weather to be updated "on the fly" there must be another means to make changes to FS9 while it is running. This got me to thinking-always a dangerous thing. I usually set up 2-3 hour flights but I will pause FS9 for various reasons. It might be a short pause. But I will also pause FS9 for extended periods-as much as 8 hours-and then resume the sim. What does ASV do while I have FS9 paused? Is it still downloading updates according to the set interval? It kinda seems to me that with regard to the blackout deal that it may well be happening during those long FS9 pauses. On the other hand I could be full of it too. Is there something I could do that would pause ASV also?Anyway thanks again for the best views out the window I have seen.:-)DanS

Hi Dan,Thanks for the kind words! After reading through you have 2 questions:1. If FS is paused ASV keeps on working, downloading weather and sending it to FS. Now, except for cirrus, no other textures are being sent, just data.2. To pause ASV? Shut it down! You are using bandwidth for those 8 hours. Or switch to Offline Mode!!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg

Good advice-there is no reason to use up your bandwidth like that. This is probably to my lack of confidence in what happens next?If I restart ASV I would have to do a new route, then refresh which will be able to then send the current metar info into the either still paused or unpaused FS9. It seems logical then to do just like a cold start; download latest metar leading to Online mode completed message, then unpause FDS9? Will that work?Thank you again for good assistance that will definitely help this time. Also just to make sure if I am using ICS those texturs do not come from a FSEnvironment, they are from ASV sets, correct? If I do not open the FE window from ASV or separately open up FSEnvironment, I will be using only my texures and those randonly seected from ASV.This would be along the way trying to figure the blackout thing which persists-most lately with a complete cold ASV/FS9 sequence well into the night, say midnight.
