October 22, 200520 yr I have been wanting to fly through a hurricane with my FS2004, just to see what it's like. But i can't seem to be able to get hurricane weather through online updates.Look at this METAR for Cozumel Intl.MMCZ 220900 25011G25KTS 9999 FEW015 BKN045 BKN250 25/23 Q1003 2964INS NO And look at the winds aloft dataFL030: 355/54 (25,60) FL060: 009/63 (18,80) FL090: 011/63 (17,30)FL120: 008/55 (7,30) FL180: 002/68 (-3,10) FL240: 002/61 (-12,80)FL300: 024/43 (-26,20) FL340: 022/35 (-36,00) FL390: 044/38 (-47,80) Those aren't hurricane winds, nor hurricane clouds, and no rain? Come on, be serious.I've been getting similar results in other locations where Wilma passed through in the past few days.Anybody had the same problem? Anybody know why this occurs?
October 22, 200520 yr Hi,Welcome to the forums! We have discussed this a few times, but I don't mind it again. When people know that a cat. 4-5 hurricane is heading their way they don't tend to stick around long to keep recording weather data. They leave the area. Also, many times a choice is made to close down stations and bring in as much equipment as possible, saving it from damage.Third, stations need electricity. If the whole power system goes down, then nothing can collect and send the data. In your example, Wilma sat directly over Cozumel for a long time and it's safe to say that it wasn't collecting any data at the time. The best thing we suggest is to fly the outer edges of storms, before stations close down, for whatever reason.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
