December 17, 200520 yr Hi All.I`m new to AVS and have a question which I hope I make clear and that someone can provide an answer to. So here goes.Right I fly using a new program called FSCargo which involves as the name suggests you picking up cargo from airport and taking it to another. The program has to be run with no time acceleration set ie 1 hour flying time takes 1 hour. Now I started with my Cargo company as I like to think of it with devisions in Canada, UK and Australia. All started on the 5th May at 7.00am local time. I fly each cargo run in real time ie do 1 run then pick up the next load at the destination for the last load so the time is keep running so its like flying 24 hours a day but at my leasure. Now for the crunch question what do I need to do to get ASV to reproduce the weather starting from the 5th May on a global basis so it runs in time with where I am and to change the weather while I`m off line as I only have dial up internet access with limited time, plus I don`t need current days weather as that would be wrong for the time of year I`m flying. So in other words how do get the weather to change as I fly while off line. What do I need to download to say to cover 1 mouth from the 5th May and how do I set up ASV to use those downloads at the correct time.Hope above is clear as I`m not very good at explaining things.Thanks.Keith>
December 17, 200520 yr Hi Keith,That was pretty fast, thanks for the purchase!Hourly, archived weather didn't start until the middle of June, so May is out of the question. If July weather is close enough you can click on the Download button. Then plug in 7 for the month, 1 for the day, 1 for the UTC hour, and 744 for the Additional Cons. Hours to Download. This will download 745 hours worth of weather and this will take some time.In ASV Options you will have Online Updates checked Off, Use System Time Off, Enable Offline Sequence On, and Auto Set FS Time on Archive D/L On. Then you can choose the archived weather file and things will go!Make sure you are using FS time set On in FS04 and not Use Ssytem time.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
December 17, 200520 yr Cheers for the reply Jim. 745 hours sounds like quite a download on dial-up so seeing as I only get to do a few hours flying each day and my cargo runs, run 1 after another thus taking several day to complete a full 24 hours I think it would be better for me to download say say 1 week each day and that will keep me well ahead of what I need. Will only take 52 days to get weather for a full year.Anyway just did my flight with ASV and I must say even on my very low powered PC I was impressed. Just a short fligth from CYHU Montreal/St-Hubert to KHIE Mt.Washington Regional. Went through several area of low level cloud with some great clear preiod and crossing a small mountian range some light turbulence and a couple of gusts on the final approach. So much more real then the MS default weather. Thanks for making my FS a more enjoyable sim.Keith.
December 17, 200520 yr Hi,You will not get a whole year because we started in the middle of June until now, so at some point you will run out of days to download. Might want to do one day of archived weather per day.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
December 18, 200520 yr Will just download until I run out of days then have a rest for while until I can get some more then stop when June comes round. Then just use that full year all the time.Keith.
December 18, 200520 yr I`m now cofused Jim you said that 24 hourly updates don`t start until the middle of June but according to the ASV user guide and I quote "Since April 16, 2005, archives are in full resolution at 24-hours-per-day intervals."Also I have downloading 25 files for each day starting with the 5th May 2005.Keith.
December 18, 200520 yr Hi,OK, quite possible that the server was archiving weather on an hourly basis before we started selling ASV. I learn new stuff everyday!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
December 18, 200520 yr Thanks once again Jim just one last question when I have finished with one of the downloaded hour files I take it I can just delete the file direct from the folder I downloaded and stored then in.You see I just realized that I will be running FSCargo in date and time sequence which means that each date and hour file will only be needed a limited number of times. Like I said I started on May 5th 2005 so once all my cargo flights have been do on that day I no longer need the files as I progress to the next day never to return to the 5th May 2005.Keith.
December 18, 200520 yr Hi,Not a problem, you can ask a million questions if you need to!Yes, it is safe just to delete the files once you are done with them.Glad you are enjoying Active Sky so far!!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
December 18, 200520 yr Cheers Jim. Yea I`m enjoying it, just need to boost this under powered PC of mine. Can`t do a lot with it as the main board is a little old and limited on the CPU it can take. Plus I don`t have a lot of cash to spare for upgrades. Please don`t ask for my current spec`s as you will be laughing for hours.Keith.
