December 17, 200223 yr Note from Prof. Selig:"This Wednesday 18 December the Discovery Channel will air a new episode of their "Unsolved History" series, "The Death of the Red Baron". For the show, I worked with a friend, Brian Fuesz, to help create a simulation of Manfred von Richthofen's last flight in which he was shot down (WWI, April 21, 1918). But was it by ground fire or at the hands of the Canadian pilot Capt Roy Brown? That's the mystery. I worked out the flight models for the Fokker triplane and Sopwith Camel (aerodynamics, propulsion, and gyroscopic forces) and Brian put together the simulation part complete with joysticks, moving control surfaces, Vickers machine guns, realtime bullet trajectories, etc. It airs at 8 pm CDT (Illinois). For other time zones, see http://dsc.discovery.com Prof. Michael S.
