February 12, 200620 yr I just purchased Active Sky last night. I have been using the FSMetar for years, and finally decided to try AS. So far I have been impressed with the real world weather depiction. However I have a few questions for the experts out there.1. Is there anyway to get low level clouds that obscure the ground from higher altitudes. it seems that while on the ground I'm socked in and it appears the way I would expect in a storm. Example; today I placed myself at LGA, and was experiencing almost 100 ft visibility, but when I climbed to 7000 Ft AGL. I could see the groud clearly there were no lower level clouds blocking my view of the ground. Is this just a FS quirk and I will just have to tolerate it or can I change a setting or something.2. Initially I had problems with snow, but I downloaded the update, and today have accurate depictions of snow. Yesterday when we were having our snowfall in West Virginia I couldn't get any snow to show up. My closet reporting station was KELN which is about 60 miles away. I wondered if that might have something to do with it. Any ideas or similar experiences? Also now that the environment is more realistic the default strobes, and taxi/landing lights seem too dim. Does anyone know of a way to increase the intensity. I know how to work with the parameters in the Fxstrobe.fx files at least to get rid of the sync with the strobes.Tom Valley
February 12, 200620 yr Hi Tom and welcome!1. That is a visibility issue in FS04. Clouds are used to control visibility and when the visibility climbs above 10 sm then the clouds are gone.2. If you are that far away from a station AS will use a combination of weather from stations in the area.3. Not sure if there is a way to adjust those lights.Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6...development.jpg http://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-proud.jpg http://www.jdtllc.com/images/rcv4bannersupporter.jpg
February 12, 200620 yr Thanks Jim for quick response. I'm not sure what 10sm is. I take it that nothing can be done to address that visibility issue. Here's hoping FSX addresses it. I see that you support Radar Contact. I read some reviews on it, and it seems to be only effective for larger aircraft and around major airports is that right? I really enjoy flying just around my home area in West Virginia and flights to Ohio and Vermont. I do some VA flights, but my time constraints make it less pleasurable. Do you think I would benefit from RC?Tom
February 12, 200620 yr Hi Tom,10 sm represents how visibility is measured and is 10 miles. We are looking forward to FSX also!RC is good for all types. If you have no additional traffic and find the default ATC system OK then RC is not for your type of flying. I enjoy it much for heavies into major airports where I have added a ton of AI traffic.Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6...development.jpg http://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-proud.jpg http://www.jdtllc.com/images/rcv4bannersupporter.jpg
