Manual Selections in ASG & Winds in FS9...

Featured Replies

Hi, While downloaded weather is obviously the greatest way to make your skies look incredible, sometimes I just don't get the right runways open for arrivals/departures in FS9, due to FS9's inherent quirks. So, often I like to just pick the appropriate looking cloud parameters in ASG to match the sky in my area, and go flying. When I get in the sim, I go to advanced weather and add the layers, temps, vis, etc.. This gives me better control in matching real world runway operations for the given day....but it seems I am having problems setting multiple wind layers. I can set them in the weather options, but they never are active past the first layer in the sim. Is there an option, or combination of options i need to have on/off within ASV and FSUIPC? I checked FSUIPC's wind settings and they seem fine. What are your thoughts?afterthought: The whole reason I do the above scenario as often as I do is, for instance: At KORD, unless I have winds blowing from 235-245 degrees my traffic won't depart 22L and arrive 22R - they will use 4L & 4R - even with 40knot winds directly down the runway at 220 degrees. I also had this happen at KLAX where winds were 242 at 22, and traffic was using the 06/07 runways...what's up with that MS? It just spoils the realism of "live" airport operations for me, so when I fly my 757/767's around, I manually set weather so I have control of wind directions. Too darned bad...Thanks for suffering through this somewhat lengthy post. Any suggestions?Neil :)

Hi Neil,Not to be mean, but what a mess! Let's try to undo some things:1. No need to ever go to weather screens in FS04. With AS running anything you were to do would get changed anyway on the first AS update.2. Is automatic AI Update turned On in AS?3. Are you using any pause or ignore options?4. Are you in Online Mode?5. To get the most realistic weather, use Auto Submit with wx Influenced themes and at least set your departure airport or your default airport in AS.6. Runway use should be correct using AS, AI updates and FS04. We worked pretty hard to get this right.7. Reset FSUIPC to default settings and weather settings Off.Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development TeamActive Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter

:) Jim, It's not really as bad as I make it sound. BUT, yes, I follow all of your above steps when using real world downloaded weather. My problem isn't really how accurate the weather look scompared to the metar...it is really FS9 quirks. I have talked to others across a few forums and in my KORD example above, I have tried it with default airport, and with simflyers (which I always have active).. Whether I set winds manually, or let ASV6 do it by auto submit, with real weather and wx influenced themes, I still suffer some of these strange quirks where traffic will be arriving and departing with strong tailwinds. I can;t figure it out for the life of me, and not expecting you to really, as I am sure it's a quirk in the sim, or at least in MY sim. I am NOT in online mode either. I will continue to fiddle, and not let it deter me from enjoying your first class product either!!Thanks for your thoughts Jim,Neil :)p.s. I only do the manual stuff I mentioned in my first post with ASV all in manual mode for selection, etc..so no updating occurs to wipe out FS9 settings.
