Active Sky and Squawkbox3

Featured Replies

Just want to confirm, in order to get AS in VATSIM w/sqwuakbox3 is simply to import it, and process it, then hide and start FS9, start sqauwkbox module...however, the weather environment for me may not be the same as other multiplayers unless they are flying the same route of flight and have ASv6.Thanks in advance.KemoF15

Hi,1. Have the VATSIM weather option On in ASv6.2. Have the weather option Off in SB3.Then you and all others will see the same departure and destination weather!Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development TeamActive Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter

It would appear that Squawkbox (and I assume the controller software) get their weather information from one source, while ServInfo and ActiveSky get VATSIM weather from a different (and probably same) source, and these sources are not always in sync. I noticed this again today, ServInfo was showing METARs from the 5/23, while Squawkbox was showing METARS from 5/25. With ActiveSky set to download VATSIM weather I was also getting two-day old weather. On the other hand, ActiveSky's non-VATSIM weather agrees with what Squawkbox is showing. Just goes to show it pays to check the METAR dates in AS and get the METAR in Squawkbox (with .metar command) to see if they agree or not. I'm pretty much going to leave the VATSIM weather option disabled from now on, it just doesn't seem that reliable.Mark Kuebeler

Hi Mark,If you do that, you and the VATSIM controller will not have the same weather data. When the VATSIM option is On we are connected to the VATSIM weather data. Not sure why the dates were so far off in your experience.Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://dot.kelder.net:8080/fseconomy/

Not sure why the dates were so far off in your>experience.Like I said, I suspect ServInfo gets its weather from a different source than the controllers and Squawkbox, and I suspect ActiveSky is getting its VATSIM weather from the ServInfo source, not the Squawkbox source. As of now (0007Z) the ServInfo weather seems to be up to date again. That was not the case earlier today, and this is not the first time this has happened on VATSIM.Mark Kuebeler

AFAICR, the Vatsim options are mainly concerned with the weather at departure and destination airports. This is obviously the crucial bit, so that the landing/takeoff situation is in synch.I have flown in flyins, where fellow pilots have had very different weather and hence speeds.Steve
