Problem with Weather Layers

Featured Replies

Okay, I've spent a couple hours trying to find the answer to my question throughout the AVSIM forums - and everyone seems to be most knowledgable about FS Weather here.I usually use ASV, but for today's flight (UAL900 SFO-FRA - EDDF 080850Z 21005KT 0400 R25L/0600U R25R/0600N FG OVC001 04/04 Q1024 BECMG FM0950 0500 BKN002) I used FS Default Real-World-Weather; the 15-minute thing. I encountered the same problem I'm about to describe, so I think this is FS, and not ASV causing me trouble. When I'm arriving at an airport with low visibility, I don't descend into the layer of soup until the flare - like... miliseconds before touchdown. Not a problem on departure - when I start on the ground, I seem to be able to carry the surface layer up to it's appropriate ending point, where the next layer of weather takes over. But going down, my ground-layer of wx doesn't exist until 10' AGL.The result is alot of really really good visibility landings. Which when you're flying a 747-400... you don't necessarily need good vis. :)Hopefully someone can identify my problem (which has probably been addressed and put to rest years ago when FS9 was new) and show me the light. ...or, get rid of the light and show me the fog. :)Thanks in advance, John

Hi John,One banner please, AVSIM rule, not ours. Thanks for the question. Does this happen all the time or just with a METAR such as above? The METAR above shows a OVC layer at 100 and a visibility of zero. So what you may be getting is this:Good visibilityEnter the OVC layerEnter the visibility layerWith a temp and DP the same this may be the reason for the very thin OVC layer. Is Favor Cumulus vs Stratus checked On in AS? If it is, you may waht to try with this checked Off.Hope this helps, Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

I have that same problem. With FS-weather and ASV weather.I took a video to explain: (Don't mind the horrid landing, I'm not used to the old junker 732 - I've been flying the 747-400 lately)
