I've been having some problems with ASv6.5 and my X1950 Pro. Last night I was flying and everything seemed fine until I hit overcast clouds and my frames went from 30 to 15 within seconds. Prior to my X1950 I owned a 7900GS which was installed on a AMD 4000+ and I had no problems with clouds. My current computer is a X6700 with a X1950 Pro and I can barely go through heavy clouds without dropping my frames. As a benchmark I used the 'low overcast' WX to see if the changes made any difference in frames. I've tried using smaller sized textures, lowering my AA and AAF settings, lowering the settings within FS9 and lowering the layers in ASv6.5 without any difference. I'm currently running brand new drivers which I reinstalled twice and everything like my PSU and card temp seem to be normal. Honestly i'm clueless why my GPU and CPU would be struggling but my only guess right now is the drivers or maybe i'm doing something wrong in ASv6.5? Any help would be great, thanks.

Hi,Sorry for the problem.Please post your ASv6.ini file for your settings.I would run dxdiag and see if everything is OK in DirectX.If you use FS Real Weather does this happen?I would also look in your system BIOS and make sure things are set up correctly there.For the drivers, did you use a driver cleaner between installs? Thanks for the quick response. I've tried everything you've suggested and I still have problems. Could you tell me what folder contains the dxt3 and resized textures? I did check the texture folders for ASv6 and only spotted the 24 and 32 bit textures but couldn't spot the dxt3 or resized textures.

Hi,There are no dxt3 textures. We found very little performance difference between texture classes. In ASG you should have 4 resolution options: 64, 128, 256, 512. Make your resolution selection there and submit new textures to FS with FS closed. Your machine should be able to handle 512 textures with no problem. That is why many of my suggestions deal with your system. I also did a few other flights with real weather and didn't run into any problems. The only time I ran into problems was with WX overcast theme. I have no idea why the frames would drop but my only guess would be 2 layers of heavy clouds might be too much for my video card. I also suspected that my FS9 settings could have been the problem because my mip mapping was set at 8 so I tried lowering it to around 4 and my frames still dipped. I'm not too concerned because so far using real weather option I haven't ran into any problems and i've had a few flights with overcast clouds.

Here's a update, i've been testing out overcast clouds for the last few days and basically for whatever reason FS9 bogs down to the point where I get 17fps in overcast conditions. I've done 2 clean installs of my drivers, updated my chipset drivers, put my AA and AF to normal settings, lowered all the settings within FS9, tried DXT and smaller cloud textures and I still have problems with both Activesky and the FS9 weather. One thing I noticed which struck me to be pretty odd was I removed cumulus01.bmp and tried the FS9 storm theme and without any clouds my FPS were dropping! When I click 'clear weather' my FPS jumped back up.I've also tried lowering the cloud cover within Active sky and using 256x256 textures without results.I've posted my FS9.cfg so maybe something could be a problem within my .cfg file.
