Desperately trying to make ASV6.5 work with FSX...

Featured Replies

Since FSUIPC4 was made available I started using ASV6.5 with FSX, but I am almost tempted to give away until the ACEs come out with some patch to make Simconnect work properly because I never really have had the chance to inject realistic weather into FSX, at least at LPPT.Many strange things happen, but I will describe it further down...When I pointed ASv6.5 to the FSX root directory I got that message:"ASv6 will be able to update your FSX station database" and gave it a "Yes". I don't really know what were the consequences of this move in the symptoms I have reported many times but the fact is that, on rainy/fogy days at LPPT, even after pressing REFRESH in ASV6.5 and watching the green message accross the top of the FSX screen showing that the METAR for LPPT was properly recognized and transmited to FSX, nothing happens (???) The blue skies stay there most of the time, pressure is still, winds point differently at non-matching intensity, etc...Sometimes the weather does load, and I get the clouds, even the overcast, and rain, but either it suddenly disppears or soon after taking off and flying away from LPPT, when I am about 1 - 2 NMs from the airport the cliouds pop-off, I look back and see a few clous over (really OVER only!!!) the airport. Circling back to the airport sometimes when I am approaching the rw and almost near landing, the waether pops up again, the clouds appear, the pressure suddenly moves to the METAR values, as well as the winds and the fog/rain...It's really a terrible experience, and one that completely spoils an otherwise nice experience.I have the weather settings maxed in FSX, cloud distance set to 120NM, etc...Also activated suppresion ceiling and suppresion range and increased the update interval... tried almost every possible parameter combination, but still NOTHING!Ah! Yet another detail - when I installed FSX fs9 had looong been deleted from my PC, so, I inherited NOTHING from fs9!I have started to delete every WX files from My Documents before starting FSX because I feared that FSX might try to activate it in the first place instead of injecting ASV6.5 weather parameters, but it is no different this way :-(Another irritating consequence is that if I place my aircraft at a nearby ( LPPC ) aerodrome which has no weather observ. on an overcast day at Lisbon, with LPPT with limited visibility, heavy rain, etc... the weather at LPPC is nice, an sometimes I can see a few clouds over LPPT... When I fly from LPPC to LPPT (just a couple of minutes) as I approach the airport sometimes the weather pops up, sometimes it never pops up, sometimes it pops up only when I am already taxiing to my parking gate :-(Heeelp!

Hi,Sorry for the problems:1. Winds are not correct between AS and FSX due to some FSX programming.2. There is no suppression in FSX right now, so cloud pop-ups may happen. Changing the suppression settigns will not do anything. Please post your ASv6.ini file and I can make some suggestions if possible!Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

Hi,Just Update Suppression should be Off and Local Suppression should be Off. The rest are good as they are.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

Jim,thx for the support!I already updated those two entries. Today it's a rainy day at LPPT. I fired up FSX and ASV at LPPT and after a 2nd REFRESH the weather was properly loaded - there were clouds and rain :-)I took off and, a less than a minute later (on a C172) the sy was blue agian :-(As usual, looking back shows the cumulus, but not the overcast and visibility layers...Speaking of visibility - would it be possible to finally have a non-transparent visibility layer in FSX for future versions of AS? It would be great - I really don't like the experience of being in a dense fog layer and as soon as I get above and look down I can still (during daytime) see the buildings and every detail, even if "filtered" by a white mant...Finally - should I try version beta 536?Thx! Keep the good work Jim, although with a bugy Simconnect in front of you, things might not be that easy...

Hi,Let me try things out tonight at that station. There may be a nearby station having an affect. We will see about the visibility!! Thanks for the ideas!Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

Hi,I went to LPPT and saw the weather clear out soon after take off. I am not sure if the AF base not far away had something to do with this or not. When I get a chance I will try things in FS04 and compare.Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

Thanks again Jim!Regarding fs9, I never had this problem with fs9, but indeed there are two nearby airbases - LPMT and LPST - issuing METAR and TAFF info (not fetched by ASV6.5 as far as I know...LPST//GRANJA (AFB)/SINTRAMETAR 141100Z 36008KT 9999 SCT018 15/10 Q1022 BLU= TAFFC 141100Z 141221 34006KT 9999 SCT018 TEMPO 1418 VRB02KT BECMG 1820 18015KT= TAFFT 141100Z 141818 18015KT 9999 SCT018 TEMPO 2218 18015G25KT BECMG 0002 BKN015 BKN030 PROB40 TEMPO 0309 4000 BR BKN010 BKN030= LPMT//MONTIJO (POR-AFB)/MONTIJO (POR-AFB)METAR 141100Z 36009KT 9999 FEW020 16/11 Q1022 BLU= TAFFC 141100Z 141221 35010KT 9999 FEW020 TEMPO 1420 VRB02KT= TAFFT 141100Z 141818 17008KT TEMPO 1820 VRB02KT BECMG 2022 16010KT BECMG 0002 BKN015 BKN030 PROB40 TEMPO 0207 4000 BR BKN008 BKN020= There is also LPAR.All of these stations are reported in FSX but never fetched (using the default FSX weather fetcher...) They allways how ISA weather :-) At LPAR the winds and pressure do get updates though...

Jim,LPST and LPMT are not listed either at NOAAs site or at the one Active Sky fetches it's METARs from. I believe the same happens with the site FSX uses for real world weather fetching, thus, we are allways left with the METAR strings from sometime around Spring 2006.would it be possible to simply erase those stations from the list of active weather stations in FSX? This way LPPT weather would be loaded whenever we are near Lisbon.

Hi,They would be in the wxstationlist.bin file. I don't know what would happen if they were deleted, so backup as needed.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

Jim,just a note to let you know that thx to your suggestions I was able to eliminate both nearby weather stations at LPST and LPMT and now everything is fine with Real World Weather in LPPT :-)On a day like today it is good to find the same overcast rainy weather even if I takeof from LPCS (15nm from LPPT).I used a vanilla Hex Editor to edit both wxstationlist.BINandwxmapping.binand remove every entry related to those aerodromes.THANK YOU!!!!

OK and thanks for letting us know!Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
