Problems connecting over network

Featured Replies

I had ASX running over my network yesterday, but today it doesn't want to work - frustrating? You bet!I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling ASX, thinking maybe the pointers to the FSX installation had gone awry.ASX starts, downloads it's stuff then sits there telling me that KSEA is the nearest station, no matter where I put myself. I'm not getting any messages in the FSX window along the lines I was before from ASX.I've checked the simconnect settings and they are all as should be. I've run the AI Traffic program and it gives a "Connected to Flight Simulator" message, but nothing else. Should it give me a list of active AI? Having said that, it's giving me a connected message even when FSX isn't even running on the server PC!!Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hi,Something is not right, of course! Is FSX installed on your client machine? It should not be.You may need to check your firewalls on both machines and check for access. An update may have changed things.Th AI program should give you numbers as AI planes come and go from FSX.Please let us know!Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/

Hi Jim,As these things go with computers, I turn it on this morning and it's working fine. ASX & AI Traffic operating as expected. Just once I'd like to understand some of this stuff :)But, in case it's of use to you in the future (or anyone else with similar experience) here's an answer to your questions. No, FSX is not installed on the client, and never has been, so there can't be any 'left overs'.The firewall (free Zonealarm) was switched of on both server & client in my attempts to find the cause, so I don't think was the problem. After going through the process of what I'd done yesterday, the only thing I did differently to the day before was running ASX locally at some stage when I wasn't able to use the laptop to run it. Is there any way that doing that could have confused the simconnect links?

Well, things were OK, but it failed again through today :(Rebooting client had no effect, but then rebooting server re-established everything. Thought I'd tried that yesterday, but maybe not - tried so many things I may have overlooked the server side reboot.Question still remains what's causing it, but more investigations will be needed to find that I fear. If I can find a particular set of activities/programs that consistently causes it I'll let you know.John

Hello JohnI recently had to reinstall everything and during that process had a great deal of trouble with SimConnect. I am not a big fan of this process and I really do feel your pain.If you are absolutely certain that your network connections are OK then your problem probably rests either with the wording and/or location of the simC xml/cfg files or the Win SxS folders. Would it be worth re-checking, once again, the wording of your files, or indeed trying a new pair. You will also want to ensure that the SxS files match the current state of your FSX installation, ie retail, SP1, Accel/SP2.I still have occasional glitches with connection but found that rebooting the server machine makes things right. Lord knows why.Bud
