March 17, 200818 yr Hi, I just want to be able to temporarily disable AS weather - online and offline. I imagine this is easy, I just haven't found the answer. I was three hours into a flight and found my airspeed was dropping to stall speed. No, I wasn't too high - I'd been at around 30,000' for a couple of hours already, and no, I wasn't out of fuel. There were plenty of lightning flashes, though, and the aircraft was bouncing around a little. So I wanted to switch weather off temporarily to see if that was causing the speed problem. It might also have helped me remain above sea level - important when you're flying over the sea. This has happened twice on consecutive flights, each in turbulent winds a few hours into the flight at around 30,000'.As a precaution I've since changed some settings in FSUIPC based on a tip in another post, but I've no idea if that'll help. Knowing how to temporarily disable external weather, though, will help me in the future to eliminate the weather as a cause. (Those subsequent changes, by the way, were to the three Smoothing settings under the Winds tab. I changed 5-0-0 to 0-5-8. Maybe someone may want to comment on that.) As a bonus, perhaps someone could help me understand how the weather pieces fit together: AS, WideClient, FSUIPC, Squawkbox, and FS9. I tried browsing the installation instructions but although they're fine for installing they didn't help me understand how everything connects together.I know you just tell Squawkbox not to provide weather data and it keeps out of it (Options > Weather > Uncheck 'Enable Squawkbox weather control').I know AS creates a snapshot file called something like 'CurrentWeatherSnapshot.txt'.And I know AS asks me during installation on a networked PC to specify the location of the FS9 installation folder, so I imagine the snapshot ends up in there.I also know FSUIPC is in there somewhere getting information from FS9 and passing it to AS and maybe also from AS to FS9.But I don't know what tells FS9 to use external weather, even when I set World > Weather to 'Weather themes' - 'Clear skies'. I imagine FSUIPC does it, but who tell FSUIPC to do it?You see my dilemma - if I understood how it all fits together, I'd know which pipe to stand on to temporarily stop the flow of weather data.I'd appreciated any help. Thanks.Geoff Geoffrey Kent
March 17, 200818 yr Hi,For a brief pause, you can use the Clear Weather button in FSUIPC. The weather will be clear and calm, until AS does an update. You pretty much have the pieces put together in your other part of your post.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/
March 18, 200818 yr Author Thanks Jim, I think that's all I need. I hoped it would be that easy. So does Clear Weather overwrite the snapshot file with calm settings? If so, does AS update the snapshot file at regular intervals, or is the update triggered by an event such as new data being generated by a weather station? What I'm getting at is roughly how long is clear weather likely to continue after I've clicked Clear Weather? Thanks again,Geoff Geoffrey Kent
March 18, 200818 yr Hi,No, the clear weather button sends clear weather data from FSUIPC to FS.The snapshot file is updated when AS downloads and processes new data. The weather will remain clear until AS updates, so it could be up to 60 minutes if that is what you have your Update interval set at.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/
March 18, 200818 yr Author Many thanks Jim. I'll take look at what I have my update interval set to.CheersGeoff Geoffrey Kent
