March 31, 200818 yr Hi,I am using Active Sky X, Flight Environment X (and GEX, UTX, etc. etc.) with FSX Deluxe.Last night I did a flight from KIAD to KDFW - and I saw weird cloud/precipitation - it was heavy rain and cloudy, flying over it at FL350 - from up high, it appeared to be small, blobby cirrus clouds - not too overcast, but if you changed to Tower view, then it was heavy rain... the weather map in ASX showed pretty overcast conditions.I wonder if there's a mismatch happening between the FEX and ASX textures? Just not very realistic with the small, spaced clouds and heavy rain. Once I got to KDFW, there were thunderstorms - the lightning effects at night were great, but again the clouds were the same.1) Have I not configured ASX correctly (I do get the weather depiction message)?2) Should I check any setup stuff in FSX?3) Is an FEX/ASX interaction causing this? (I read through other FEX/ASX posts and it seems as if ASX should take priority over any cloud textures installed by FEX)Any help/insight greatly appreciated.JW
March 31, 200818 yr Hi JW,Just be aware that ASX contains no textures for FS. That means all your textures are default or FEX textures. You can post your ASX.cfg file and I'll be happy to take a look at your settings. In the mean time try our default settings and see what happens. Also, make sure your FPS are locked in FSX.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/
April 2, 200818 yr Jim,Okay - many thanks for the clarification on textures. On looking again at the help files, I realized I had SkyScape set even though I don't have X-Graphics, so I have now disabled that. Seems when I fly that I still generally get these blobby cumulus clouds - not sure if that is really the only general cloud type that FSX provides for weather depiction within the 60mile range (I think FEX must be generated the very high altitude streaky clouds?).In any case, I have posted my ASX.cfg file (from Docs & Settings/USER/Application Data/etc. etc.) in below and would appreciate it very much if you can advise the right or better settings. FYI, I have FEX, GEX, UTX, FSGenesis - but I doubt they make any difference to ASX.Many thanks - a great product!John//ASX Configuration File[Options]AutomaticDownloads = TrueAutomaticDownloadInterval = 10CAVOKCloudGenerationPercent = 50NoDataCloudGenerationPercent = 50CirrusCloudGenerationPercent = 50MaximumCloudLayers = 5MinimumCloudTurbulencePercent = 0MaximumCloudTurbulencePercent = 100MinimumCloudIcingPercent = 0MaximumCloudIcingPercent = 100MaximumSurfaceWindSpeed = 100MinimumWindTurbulencePercent = 0MaximumWindTurbulencePercent = 100MinimumWindShearPercent = 0MaximumWindShearPercent = 50MinimumVisibilitySM = 0MaximumVisibilitySM = 100UpdateRange = 500DynamicRateofChangePercent = 50WakeTurbulenceStrength = 50DepictHurricanes = TrueCreateVirtualStations = TrueEnhanceRouteCoverage = TrueMaximumUpperVisibilitySM = 60VATSIMDownloads = FalseEnableSkyScapeMode = FalseUseSkyScapeforStratus = FalseStratusCloudOccurrencePercent = 20ForceHighPriority = FalseDisableWindsAloft = FalseEnableWindSmoothing = TrueEnableVisibilityGraduation = TrueEnableFogLayerSimulation = True
April 3, 200818 yr Hi,Those all look good. All you can do is experiment with the FEX clouds.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/
