August 7, 200817 yr Hi, I just installed ASX. I have got past the initial simconnect problems, but have come up against another wall. After start up all goes smoothly until I get an error 'Problem writing weather values:Access to the path 'systemcDocuments and settinsAll UsersApplication Dataasx-wx-info.dat' is denied. (Error) Source='Therefore no weather in my sim.I did a forum and web search but could find nothing. All relevant folders are shared with full permissions, but I can't find a way to give permissions specifically to the user on my ASX PC. Is that the problem? Thanks for any help.
August 8, 200817 yr Hi,You should be signed in As Administrator on both computers. And make sure that your Application Data folder is shared. Please let us know.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/
August 8, 200817 yr Hi,I am at work at the moment so can't test, but to be clear do you mean signed in as using 'Administrator' or an account with admin permissions? Thanks for the reply.
August 8, 200817 yr Hi,Using the Administrator account.Please let us know.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/
August 8, 200817 yr Hi,thanks for helping with this.I've just tried what you said, but I could only sign in as Administrator by starting the FSZ machine in safe mode with networking. The result is the same error. For info, my FSX machine is XP Pro and the ASX machine is Vista Ultimate.I can create and edit files in the appropriate directories on the FSX machine by using the ASX machine, no errors.I've tried dropping the anti-virus (Avast) and the Windows Firewall.I'd like to try a clean install of ASX but whenever I try and uninstall it it complains it cant't find the FSZ directory and asks me to browse to it. The uninstall hangs there. Is there a method to manually uninstall it?Thanks again,Gareth Evans
August 8, 200817 yr Hi,What happens if you browse to the FSX directory?Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/
August 9, 200817 yr I can browse to it fine, but can't alter any files remotely. The ASX machine (Vista) just throws an error 'You need permission to perform this action.'As far as I can see, all permissions are set correctly, but I can't find out how to add the Vita machine as an explicit user of the files.
August 9, 200817 yr Hi,That I am not sure of, as I don't own Vista. Maybe a Google search or someone else will come along here.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/
August 10, 200817 yr I just scanned your post and saw a typo in the path - there's a 'g' missing in Documents and Settings. If you actually cut and pasted the error message, then possibly that's where to look.CheersGeoff Geoffrey Kent
August 10, 200817 yr No, I typed that so unfortunately it's just a typo on my part. Thanks for looking in though.
August 12, 200817 yr Ok, for info this is resolved. I had to make a reinstall of FSX because of some problems with other addons. I reinstalled to a directory outside of 'Program Files' and it works fine.I assume something in Windows or my Anti-virus was being overly protective of Program Files, even though I was explicitly telling Windows to allow access to the share.Cheers,Gareth
