Average winds aloft missing...

Featured Replies

For my last several flights, I've noticed that ASX does not report Average Winds Aloft. Rather it gives me an average at zero elevation. I still have the grid showing winds at differnt altitudes for my waypoints, just not the average at the bottom of the briefing page.I don't know that this is an ASX issue, as Radar Contact has now stopped giving me climbing instructions all the way to my cruise altitude. It's as though these programs are having difficulty reading my FS flight plan, although it's beyond my expertise to know for sure.I am using the FS flight planner, and have a registered copy of FSUIPC. This is happening on PMDG 747.I have also posted this in RC's forum. I prefer asking this here and there rather than the FSX forum because I respect the expertise available.Any ideas how I can sleuth this one out?Regards,

Hello, Jim-Ya know, I feel kind of silly as I haven't been checking the altitude window. *:-* I will, though, and report back the next time this occurs. In the meantime, I've worked around this by either reloading the FP, or else changing to a different FP and the reloading the one I wish to fly.The really weird thing (which has nothing to do with ASX) is that Radar Contact is still failing issue climb instructions to my filed cruise altitude, and I can see that altitude in both RC and my FP! It's been leaving me at FL230/240.So for now, this can go on the back burner here until I post an answer to the altitude window question.Regards,

OK, today when I fired up ASX, I loaded a plan (generated through FSX) and same thing: Average winds were reported at altitude "0". This time I looked and saw that my filed cruise altitude of FL360 (36,000) was in the window. As before, I reloaded the plan and all was well. I can easily live with this, especially given no other reports suggests something on my end, as it just takes a couple of seconds to reload a plan. I realize that I haven't stated why I posted about this, although you may have correctly surmised the reason is for fuel planning purposes. If I notice anything else that seems relevant, I'll report back. Thanks again for your great program.Regards,

Email sent, with a plan PANC - RJAA that I flew today.Regards,

Hi, Jim-I was tired yesterday and mistyped your email address. I sent it again today, to both addresses. Thanks.BTW, ASX has worked fine today.Regards,

Hello, Jim-Thank you. I replied back, but wanted to include here what I now think is happening. When I import a flightplan, sometimes ASX sees the cruise altitude, sometimes not. I'm pretty sure if I check the altitude window to ensure its there before processing, all will be fine. I'm not sure why there is inconsistency here, since all flightplans I'm experienced this with have been 100% FSX generated. But, this seems simple enough to monitor. Thanks again for your time.Regards,
