What is causing this discrepancy between real world METAR and AS6.5?

Featured Replies

I just completed a flight from KDFW to KONT in the USA.Activesky 6.5 is reporting the current conditions and forecast at KONT as being:METAR:KONT 312015Z 07003KT 10SM SKC 27/17 A2978 RMK DYNAMIC TAF ELEMENTTAF:KONT 311720Z 311818 26008KT P6SM SKC FM2000 27015KT P6SM SKC FM0500 25006KT P6SM SCT008 FM0700 23005KT 5SM BR OVC008 FM1200 VRB04KT 5SM BR OVC012The actual current conditions are:METAR:KONT 311953Z 26011KT 10SM FEW085 31/18 A2975 RMK AO2 SLP054 T03110183TAF:KONT 311720Z 311818 26008KT P6SM SKC FM2000 27015KT P6SM SKC FM0500 25006KT P6SM SCT008 FM0700 23005KT 5SM BR OVC008 FM1200 VRB04KT 5SM BR OVC012As you can see, AS6.5 has the TAF exactly right, it says it's connected just fine to FS and the internet, etc. So obviously since the TAF is exactly correct it has downloaded the latest weather for KONT, but the METAR report is incorrect. The time is off (not sure where it got that time from, but it is not yet 2015Z so obviously there couldn't be any 2015Z weather observation, and the conditions, particularly the wind, are completely off. It does have the Date correct though.Any idea what's going on here? Thanks,NC

Yes, I had TAF Processing on. Should I turn it off? I thought from the description of that option that AS would make changes to the conditions at the airport in question based upon what the TAF is predicting the weather will be, which would be fine, except this discrepancy did not seem to be based on any element of the TAF.After I posted my original post, I shut down flight sim and AS6.5 and then started them back up again, and the AS6.5 METAR for KONT was correct and giving me the correct conditions in the simulator. Then today, I did another flight out of KONT and again there was a similar discrepancy between the TAF and METAR observation and the conditions being depicted within FS9. The real world METAR observation was winds 00000kt (calm of course) and so was the TAF for that time period. AS6.5 was showing wind of 070@3kts. Not a major discrepancy but enough to change the traffic flow from landing and taking off west (as is how they normally operate at KONT in the real world when it's calm) to landing and taking off east, meaning my SID that I'd filed out of KONT was inappropriate for the traffic flow, etc.
