Question and Comment About 122.02

Featured Replies

Comment first. In the help section under voice, it is given that to get a weather briefing to tune to 122.00. That's fine. Then, to get a destination voice report, tune to "122.02" Well, technically, it's 122.025. I didn't know that see and when I tried to manually tune WilcoPubs E-Jet FMC with 122.02, it said "invalid entry," and that was because I didn't know/forgot about the .025 instead of just .02. I just thought it would be nice if sometime the help file were updated to say 122.025 so that newbies might not get confused.Anyway, the question I have is that I tried to match the wind direction and speed that the voice gave on 122.025 to textual briefing material and either I did not hear correctly becaise it seemed significantly different from the text briefing. Let's assume the former is true however. I notice that there are two readings given, sometimes not the same. Is it supposed to be the "interpolated" report that gives the real destination surface winds and direction, or the one above it? Randy Jura, KPDX

Hi Randy,For the radio issue: we write directed towards the default planes and what we know at release. We can keep this in mind for the future. Maybe Wilco should fix their radios!I am not sure I understand your question. One thing to keep in mind is to adjust for magnetic variation."Is it supposed to be the "interpolated" report that gives the real destination surface winds and direction, or the one above it?" Above what? What screen are you looking at? What "interpolated" report? Please let me know and I'll return later!Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/

Ha! I am having a bad writing day I think. Wilco is fine Jim. It was my error to mistake how to tune their radios. My point is that I did not know until recently that comm frequencies go out three digits past the decimal. The proper form is 122.025, not 122.02 (technically speaking of course). On the Active Sky X Help page, under "Using ASX", then "Voice Feature," it is stated that to get a voiced destination weather report, you are supposed to tune any comm radio to "122.02" That is not really correct Jim, it's 122.025 ; I came across it when I inadvertantly tried to tune a Wilco E-Jet radio to 122.02 through their FMC and it would not let me until I used 122.025, adding the "5" at the end. I had to finally figure out that your Help screen meant 122.025, not 122.02. I hope that is clearer. I was just suggesting that if I can misinterpret your Active Sky X help screen, others could as well.As to the question then, when we do use 122.025 on a comm radio, default plane or otherwise, which report is the voice giving us? What I was pointing out is that when you push the "briefing" button on a connected Active Sky X screen, up pops the "Navigation Log" and "Textual Briefing" Windows. WHen you enter a Flight Plan, the Textual Briefing window gives the text readout of the weather reports. If you page down in the text, you eventually come to the texted out destination weather interpretation. There are two reports given, just above where it says "Winds aloft by waypoint:" and all that data. For instance, I'm looking at a report for KBIL-KSLC:Destination (KSLC): KSLC 011953Z 00000KT 10SM FEW040 SCT060 SCT100 13/04 A3011 RMK AO2 SLP169 TCU RMK INTERPOLATEDKSLC 011931Z 012018 33009KT P6SM FEW025 SCT050 BKN090 TEMPO 2021 18006KT FM0000 34010KT P6SM SCT080 FM0400 15006KT P6SM SKCAs you can see, you guys use the word "interpolated" Now, my question is, which KSLC surface winds report would the voice prompted by 122.025 give me, the one before the word interpolated or the one after and below the word "interpolated." As you can see, they can be very different. I've never been able to figure out which is which in the real ground surface winds.Randy Jura, KPDX

Thanks Jim. It's true, you cannot dial in 122.025 for a default FSX plane, but I never fly those. The Wilco products and Flight1's Super 80 Pro you can. It would never have come up, save you can use Wilco's E-Jet series FMC to keypad in comm radio frequencies. It's the only time it's ever come up. Anyway, thanks again!Randy Jura, KPDX
