ASX doesn't connect to FSX

Featured Replies

Another guy with ASX-FSX problems..Hi everybody.I am as of 1 hour ago a happy owner of ASX, trying to put it together with FSX-SP2(Acceleration) on a Vista64 machine. When I run ASX it starts ok after the elevation. It downloads the weather data, and in general everything works. However, when I launch FS (not from within ASX but from Vista), ASX doesn't recognize that FSX was run (I don't see anything in the log wrt connecting to FSX, I can't click on "Lock to FS position", and I don't see any indication that those two gentlemen are aware of each other). If, on the contrary, I let FSX run from within ASX with the "Launch FS" button, they strike conversation, but then the FS itself runs as privileged admin also, which is not the way I want to run it.ASX was installed with admin privileges, yet it's only admin that has desktop shortcuts to ASX.I have no doubts that there are many people that managed to run the combination of FSX and ASX under this "multiuser" scenario, so I am very sure I must be missing something.Any help would be really appreciated!

Hi Jim,here is the xengine.log file. Thanks in advance!

That is correct. There is about five minute delay in the timestamps in the log file, that's when I launched and exited FSX.

OK, I'm on it. Do you mean "install on the top of" or "install instead"?*EDIT* Disregard the question, I read the README included and I got enlightened.*EDIT2* Installed the update. Icons for normal users didn't appear, xgauge is cold and dead, and the logfile looks very much the same. No positive change I'm afraid to say.Waiting with hope for further suggestions....

Hi,That is correct. Ideally I would want to run the ASX as normal user too, but that doesn't seem to be possible, as the xengine.exe asks for elevation immediately. When I launch FSX from within ASX, then it seems to run OK, but then FSX runs as Admin too.

Ah, ok.So there is no way around that? I just have to have FSX running as admin? :-(.

Well, then I'll just have to live with it, I guess.Another question, if I may: Suppose I have two users on a computer. Due to the latest developments both of them got admin privileges now. What is the correct procedure for both of them to allow the ASX to run? Seems as the installation procedure generates a set of registry entries, and files in %APPDATA%, but this happens only for the user that launches the installation. Essentially, what I have done, is that I installed ASX as User1, verified that it works, then I installed ASX as User2 (into the same directory), verified that it works, and after a couple of login/logouts and reboots it essentially worked, and now I have two users with independent FS profiles, both capable of running ASX, so I am a happy bunny minus the admin privileges required. What would be the standard way of having the ASX installed for all users? But seriously, ASX seems to be a great program and I am really enjoying it. However, these initial problems with installation took considerable amount of wind off my sails, so to speak, and if I was not really determined to make it work I would have given up. With all possible respect, you really should make this working in multiuser and restricted right environment (I doubt this would have happened using FSUIPC, as I am using Radar Contact as well without having to run FSX as admin, although I may be mistaken). I'll be happy to do some testing for you on that subject. Thanks for your help!

Hi,"What would be the standard way of having the ASX installed for all users?"Install it under each user I believe.FSX will not communicate properly using SimConnect if it is not given those privileges. It is really a Vista/Microsoft issue.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/
