October 13, 200817 yr Hello,I am using ASv6.5 with FS9.I am just wondering whether your destination (as selected in the flight plan box) is affected by the suppression range as far as weather updates go?Reason I ask is, I recently had a situation where I was approaching an airport where the last updated metar was reporting 150 metres visibility, which was below minimums. I went into the hold at a fix which is aprox 10-20 miles from the airport by memory, waiting for the weather to improve, however the destination metar did not appear to update, so I pressed the refresh button and the metar updated. The new reported visibility was 900 metres which was above minimums, therefore I attempted an approach. Coming down the ILS, I hit my decision height/altitude and had to initiate a go around due to not becomming visual. It turned out later, or seemed at least, that the airfield had retained the 150m visibility even though it was now reported as 900m after my forced refresh.Being a real world pilot, I understand that the actual weather may differ from the metar/taf reports and that sometimes they can get it very wrong, however my main question is below:Is it possible to enter the hold over or near your destination airport and wait for the weather to improve? Or does the suppression range / local suppression range options in ASv6.5 affect the destination as well, therefore making holding a bit pointless?Regards,James
October 13, 200817 yr Hi James,Most users do not want their destination weather to change all of a sudden and that is what those options provide. You want the changes so we need to work in the other direction for you.Yes, destination weather will be suppressed by the Suppression Range. Also, even though you refreshed the data and AS showed the new data, that data was not sent to FS.One work around for you would be to have Use Update Suppression On during the flight and then turn it Off when you enter a hold. Then if conditions improve, they will be showed in FS.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/
October 13, 200817 yr Hello Jim,Thanks for the reply. It is a shame there is no option to have the destination weather suppression to be influenced only by the suppression ceiling, that way users could use the supression range for the entire flight but still have the destination updated inside that range if necessary, while still avoiding the sudden late weather changes on final below X feet.Still a brilliant peice of software though and I would never fly without Active Sky! I understand you cannot acomodate everyones preferences with issues such as this.Just to confirm your work around, if I wanted the weather to update while in the hold, would I have to disable both the 'Use Update Suppression' and 'Use Local Range Suppression' options or just one of them?My 'Suppression Ceiling' is set to 2500 feet, so I don't mind if the weather does not update below that altitude, but as long as it does above that altitude during a scenario such as the one I described in my first post. Also, would disabling one or both of those options take effect immediately while in-flight without having to restart anything for the new option selections to be recognised? Thanks for your help!James
October 14, 200817 yr Hi,Yes, uncheck both when in a hold. Then do a manual refresh of the weather, no restart necessary.Thanks!Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/
