December 25, 200223 yr I made a strange observation yesterday. I was flying from Moscow to New York on Samdim's Il-62M and decided to rely on the "select frequency, but do not call" trick for the long Atlantic crossing, so that I could let the plane fly on A/P while I was attending to my family duties :-) .Well - when I returned to my computer later that night I found that I was just approaching the Canadian/U.S. border, and a look into the ATC window told me I was in range of Boston Centre. I then looked into FSNav and saw that I would probably be ordered to descend soon, so I saved the situation - just in case - and called Boston Centre.Under normal circumstances, ATC would then give me a whole barrage of course orders, usually ending with the vectors to the next waypoint ahead. However, this time ATC gave me only one single heading order of 065
