June 19, 200322 yr When climbing and setting the mixture controls on the dc3 what procedure are you boys using. are you going by the sound of the engines or what in relation to gauge settings?---Louis
June 20, 200322 yr Normally mixture is adjusted using the EGT (exhaust gas temp) guage. Lean to a peak EGT reading then adjust the mixture back to the rich side by some amount which varies with engine type/mfr reccomendations. The Cesna 210 I used to fly was lean to peak and then enrichen 50 degrees for optium mixture.. Leaning too much causes "ping", burned valves and high temps, it's to be avoided. Also remember to richen the mixture during the descent or you'll have a dead or rough running engine causing you to declare an emergency at a controlled field. (Don't ask why I know this...:-bluegrab) . Because there is no EGT in the R4D sim (current version anyway) the best you can do is either use the CHT guage or do like I do and listen to the engine then back off... Mike B.
June 20, 200322 yr Ha i like don't ask how i know this part, Ok. i'll keep on using the listen and back off trick like i've been doing. On the Dream Fleet piper Archer the egt works good for setting the mixture. Thanks Louis
