November 8, 200322 yr I have the FS2002 Briefing Time and it works fine in FS2002. After loading it in FS9 and starting BT, I get the usual error message on loading the FSSound.dll module where I respond with a YES to load the module. The plane will run fine as long as I do not change views via the S key. Almost always a view change will cause a horrible sound to begin, a static filled unending series of explosion like sounds that boom and fade every 2 seconds. Is this problem one that will be fixed with the FS9 upgrade? Some PC specs: 2.8 MHz PC running Windows XP, 500mb Ram, Sound Blaster Live! card, nVidia TI4600 display card, Logitech Wingman connected via the sound card.Jim Jones
November 8, 200322 yr Hello Jim,what sound card are you using?Ian P.BTBT Gopher and Random Beer Crate Rotator.:-halo
November 8, 200322 yr Hi IanJim's post tells you what soundcard he's using. See "System Specs"!-------------------------------------------JimI have no idea whats causing your problem, Perhaps a Direct X issue, are you running the latest version (9.0b is the version I run here)?, If so, run DXDIAG and under SOUND, try turning the hardware acceleration down one notch to "Standard Acceleration" and see if that helps. I have never come across that problem in the hours and hours of testing. In the sound folder, try playing the engine sounds separately and see if they play without distortion, If they do it's not a sound card issue but may well be Direct X related. For the module error on startup, open your fs9.cfg file and make an entry somewhere like this[OldModules] (Square brackets)FSSOUND.dll=1That will stop the error message appearing. If you don't know where the file is located, it's here C:Documents and SettingsYour nameApplication DataMicrosoftFS9RegardsTimhttp://www.spottedantelope.com/bwomack/ima...aam-sim_sig.gif
November 9, 200322 yr Thanks Tim for your response.I tried lowering the sound acceleration one notch to Standard Acceleration. That helped a little. Lowering it two notches to "Basic Acceleration" eliminated the Booming problem entirely. A sound test did inidicate that at this level of acceleration there is no hardware buffer, only software. The interesting thing is that I have BT loaded in FS2002 and there was no sound problem at the highest sound acceleration level, even though it uses the same sound card and DXversion 9.0a as used in FS2004 without the BT upgrade.I tested each BT wav file installed in FS2004 individually with Windows Media Player and detected nothing unusual. And introducing the following commands to my fs9.cfg file also eliminated having to manually accept the fssound.dll module:(oldmodules) where ( and ) are square bracketsfssound.dll=1Many thanks for both of your very successful fixes to my problem.Jim Jones
November 9, 200322 yr D'OH! Sorry... Beer crate moment there.I had a very similar problem with an on-board sound card on a motherboard. That turned out to require an update to the driver, the latest version of which was 'broken' by the update to DirectX (to 9.0b).I was going to suggest checking that, which obviously you don't need to.Ian P.BTBT Gopher and Random Beer Crate Rotator.:-halo
