November 22, 200322 yr The last leg:-Well, my boring trip from Mexico City to San Diego is over -- but not with out some excitement. Ran out of fuel at 7,500 feet above Lindbergh Field and came in dead stick even with the "Ferry Tank" installed. Greased it into the ocean lined up on Final with the runway within 100 yards of the field and the B-25 just settled down and floated. Hope the tugs and rescue equipment get here pretty soon. Not sure how deep the water is -- but she didn't keel over and sink. Only needed another 2 or 3 gallons of AVGas. The B-25J glides like a homesick rock.If she starts to sink there is a good chance I can swim the distance. So close and yet so far.Footnote: The B25J was converted to Fs9 standards about 3/4 of the way around the trip. The power and fuel setting differ from the Fs2002 original version. Conclusion: Should have gone back to flight school after the conversion. Hehe.Frenchy -- out.
