Starting the MAAM DC3

Featured Replies

Hello everybody,After two weeks of tedious reinstallation of my complete PC (Windows, updates, flightsim, addon's, ...)I have reinstalled the MAAM DC3.However, since the reinstallation there are a bunch of problems I can't get solved, not even by reading the manual.- first of all, I thought that the installationroutine created an entry in the 'software' section of the configurationscreen of WinXP.Not so in my setup... I have tried several installations (by removing manually all files) but I had no succes sofar. I can get no info on this by reading the manual it seems...- Secondly, there is no way I can get the airplane to start. I have read the manual concerning startup about 5 times now but I cannot get it to work. I assume it is my fault by doing something wrong but I cannot figure out what.I have fuel pressure, manifold pressure at 30, batteries and generators are on, Fuel mixture set to rich,...Ignition master on, and magnetos set to both...Whatever I do afterwards, prime, start, vibe... the only thing that happens is the RPM increasing to 400, staying there until the startswitch returns to its position... But the engine never catches... (by the way ctrl+E doesn't work either)What am I doing wrong...Thanks to everybody who can shed a light on this oneLuc BrusselmansBelgium

Hi LucSorry you are having problems.I can't say I quite understand what you mean by 'the installationroutine created an entry in the 'software' section of the configurationscreen of WinXP'.... that's a new one on me. Is this a problem to you? Have you configured your FSSound.dll entry in the sim's CFG file? You have not said what sim you are running, so please advise that and maybe we can help further. As for start up, there are a number of threads in this forum on this subject. It does seem that with certain users' computer configurations, this problem emerges. Annoyingly, none of us at MAAM-SIM has been able to replicate the issue, so it's hard for us to fix, on that basis. But what does seem to work for afflicted simmers is to limit the frame rate to 30FPS or less (which is quite adequate, you don't need more than that anyway for smooth flight). Are you running on unlimited frames? Try that if so, and let us know.MarkMark "Dark Moment" BeaumontVP Fleet, DC-3 AirwaysTeam Member, MAAM-SIM[a href=http://www.swiremariners.com/cx.html" target="_blank]http://www.paxship.com/avsimlogo.jpg[/a]

Hello Mark, thanks for the assistance.- I am running fs9 on rather nice machine (AMD Athlon 64 2X 6000+, 3Gb RAM, MSI NX7900FT) but not with unlimited framerates. I locked the sim at 35.- I can't seem to remove the DC-9 by any other means than manually removing the files out of the sim. Is that correct or should there be some kind of uninstall (through the ADD/REMOVE SOFTWARE of the OS)?- And I found a new problem (or it can be related to the startup problem..? I didn't figure that out)Whenever I have the DC-3 installed, the pc shuts itself down after four or five minutes, starts up again with the message that it has recovered from a serious problem. Since the DC3 is the last one installed, I tried to remove the plane (hence the discovery of the manual uninstall) and by doing so, the shutdown didn't occur anymore. After 3 short flights of about 20 minutes, I did a new install and there it was again...I'm going to try the following:a new install, locking frames at 25-30 and giving it a try. I'll be back later with the results.have a nice sundayLuc BrusselmansBelgium

Mark,As I promised back with my findings...You were right. Lowering the framerate to 29 solved the problem completely. I even was able to put back the 1 Gb RAM I had removed yesterday. Now I'm back at the full 4 Gb RAM and the bird flies like a charm. Now I can go putting back the updates in.Thanks for mointing me in the right direction. (But I still can't understand why lowering framerate can impact the startingsequence of an aircraft...)Luc 'Banker' BrusselmansBelgium

<<>>>There is no way that our installation can be causing a crash UNLESS you have not made the FSSound.dll entry in the FS9.CFG file, as instructed in the manual. Then you may have problems. Have you done that, Luc?MarkMark "Dark Moment" BeaumontVP Fleet, DC-3 AirwaysTeam Member, MAAM-SIM[a href=http://www.swiremariners.com/cx.html" target="_blank]http://www.paxship.com/avsimlogo.jpg[/a]

Mark,Your reply set me thinking and I restored my system to the point before the reduced framerates.Fssound.dll is installed and the fs9.cfg entry was in place (In fact I use that entry always because I have two other planes that use it)So, I put the framerate back to 35 like it was before and, taking off at KSEA, after five minutes the PC shuts down.It happens only with the dc3 and always when I use it with the engines running (changing from default cessna to the MAAM dc3)When I reduce the locked framerate to 29 the problem goes away...I cannot explain what happens but reducing the locked framerate solves all problems so I'm a happy man again.I am not saying that the DC3 is causing the shutdown but one way or another it is linked with the problem.I still can't understand either why raising of the locked frames causes the startup problem...Anyway, you did point me in the right direction and the difference between frames locked at 29 instead of 35 is hardly an issue. Thanks for a great planeLuc BrusselmansBelgium
