December 30, 200223 yr On final approach, why are the series of 4 lights red then white? Is this due to altitude upon approach or being centered on final?Thanx for the info,=Swiv=

December 30, 200223 yr Keep 2 red and 2 white and you will be aligned for a perfect approach! (Verticaly at least!)Asylum.
December 31, 200223 yr G'day,Yes you are correct. These lights are to help a pilot on a visual approach check if they are on the correct glideslope. As stated above the lights can tell you if you are above or below the glideslope. White means above, red means below. Three white, a bit above, four white, heaps above. Three red a bit below, four red, watch out!If you can keep two red and two white all the way to the thresh-hold then you should make a safe landing. Once you have the lights indicating OK try adjusting your throtttle and pitch andle to get about a 500 ft/min descent rate and you won't have to 'chase' the lights.Hope this helpsMark Underwood(Adelaide, Australia)
