GPS User Added Intersections

Featured Replies

KEYWORDS: GPS | Intersection | PLN FilesI don't know if this is old news or any other way to do it from within the flight planner, but here is a way to get the GPS to point one the way to a sight seeing spot. My problem was that one can only make use of the internal GPS database. If an intersection is not there I could find no way to add it to the GPS. My workaround is to edit the flight plan... any other tips/corrections would be appreciated! In the following case study I've used Yellowstone to fly to Ol' Faithful. I planned the trip to use the Bell but you may use any aircraft of preference. Note the cruising_altitude=8500, but take care to avoid high ground. The tips:1. One can use the flight planner to create a flight using the same airport as departure and destination then save the plan.2. Use a file manager (Explorer) and find in C:Documents and SettingsYourUserNameMy DocumentsFlight Simulator Files the file *.pln just saved.3. Add any waypoint using the syntax as below. Faith is just the name of my virtual intersection (I) with coordinates of the (any!) place to fly towards, of which the coordinates are available. Note that LO is the NDB (N) close to the outer marker for an approach for the return. As easy as it comes ;-)Pieterexample---------------------------------------------------------{flightplan} (square brackets in file of course!)AppVersion=9.0.30612title=KWYS to KWYSdescription=KWYS, KWYStype=VFRroutetype=0cruising_altitude=8500departure_id=KWYS, N44* 40.71', W111* 7.47', +006643.99departure_position=1destination_id=KWYS, N44* 40.71', W111* 7.47', +006643.99departure_name=Yellowstonedestination_name=Yellowstonewaypoint.0=, KWYS, , KWYS, A, N44* 40.71', W111* 7.47', +006643.99, waypoint.1=, Faith, , Faith, I, N44* 27.37', W110* 49.35', 0, waypoint.2=, LO, , LO, N, N44* 34.52', W111* 11.86', +006648, waypoint.3=, KWYS, , KWYS, A, N44* 40.71', W111* 7.47', +006643.99, Edited to add keywords and to make the title clearer. -F
