May 4, 200422 yr Hi AllDoes anyone else have the Logitech Freedom 24 Wireless Joystick. Its a great device but with one particualr problem - it seems to just "got to sleep" and leave you without any control over the aircraft until you "wake it up" by pressing a key.I wondered if anyone has figured out how to keep this joystick alive. I am using WindowsXP and a USB 2.0 port. I have tried using the joystick with a USB 1.0 hub but no difference. After a varying amount of time, it just stops responding until you press a button.
May 4, 200422 yr Well, waky waky it then with the button! :) For me, I'll stick with wired joysticks :) :)
May 5, 200422 yr Tis good advise I fear. The joystick felt great and was the best of the bunch in the shop, but that drawback is irritating. A wired joystick looks like a better option.PS Sorry for posting in the wrong area Word Not Allowed. I now know better.
May 6, 200422 yr Hello! I have a Logitech Wireless 2.4 and I used a downloaded utility called Caffeine to adjust the 'sleep' time for the joystick (which is usually 2 minutes of non-activity). You can checkout Wingmanteam.com for the latest drivers and utilities. Here is the caffeine file:http://www.wingmanteam.com/latest_software/gadgets.htmClick on the Caffeine utility to download. You set the 'sleep' time and then run it in the background. Hit a joystick button to 'wake' the stick, then run Flight Sim!
May 6, 200422 yr Two questions: 1. Is it necessary to run the Caffine utility to set sleep time every time before running the Flight Fim? 2. What is the longest sleep time that can be set?
May 6, 200422 yr Hello,I didn't write the utility (Logitech developers did) and thus it's 'unsupported'. However, Here's how it works:Hit a button on your joystick to 'wake' the thing. Then, you run the utility and set the 'sleep' time using a slider (from 2 minutes to forever). There is basically an infinite amount of adjustment you can make using the slider. You then minimize the utility to your taskbar and leave it there. Then you can run Flight Sim or Lock-on or whatever. When you're done flying around, remember to CLOSE THE UTILITY or it will keep your joystick 'awake' (until the timer stops that is). You can set the utility to "run with Windows boot" or something like that to start the app when you start windows. I don't do that since I want the joystick off unless I'm actually flying Flight Sim. I run the app everytime I start Flight Sim; it's part of my Flight Sim Startup Procedures (heh).I usually use the utility to keep the joystick on 'forever' since I don't want it to sleep at all, even if I use the autopilot for a two hour flight.Remember this utility will WIPE OUT your batteries pretty fast if you change the timer to anything beyond 2-5 minutes timeout. I use rechargable batteries (and have for years on many battery-powered devices) so killing the batteries is not a big deal (I have a 1-hour recharger). I think this utility made flying much better, especially in Lock-On and Flight Sim (where the thottles would move when the joystick 'awakens').Good Luck, hope this helps!!
May 6, 200422 yr Thanks Kickin'for a complete understandable report on this utility. Now lets see - where is my Logitech store?
