June 25, 200421 yr OK, since I skimped on my new video card buying a 9800Pro instead of an X800Pro, I want to do something about my RDRam. I currently have four sticks of 128mbPC1066 running with my Intel D850EMV2 mobo and want to get a gig. Not interested in changing out the mobo at this time. I'm finding that the 512mb is no longer enough since I added Norton virus Scanner, Word, The Works, Quickbooks and a couple other office programs, and was barely sufficient before adding this stuff. Adding work software really takes a toll on resources.Since the PC1066 Ram is very difficult to find and 20% to 30% more than PC800 Ram (which seems very available yet), anybody got any opinions on acquiring 4 sticks of 256mb PC800 instead of the 1066? My processor is a PIV2.53 @ 533mhz. The PC800 is $104 per stick. PC1066 is $120-$130 per stick.
June 25, 200421 yr Sounds like we have the same MOBO. I have 1 gig of RD installed and it did make a nice improvement, but can't speak to the exact question you ask. Only wish I could switch to DDR or something that wasn't as finicky to overclocking as RD is:-)
June 25, 200421 yr I have a similar system like yours and i can tell you for sure that FS2004 'rocks' and is very, very, smooth.I have no experience with PC1066, but i think that FS9 'eats' CPU and graphics card ram too.Asus P4T533cPentium4 3.06Ghz HTSamsung 1Gb RDRam PC800ATI Radeon x800 Pro 256mbPauloLPPT
June 26, 200421 yr Thanks LPPT. The Samsung PC800 ram seems to be the best priced and most available and I doubt I'll see any speed difference between the two. The overall smoothness I should achieve should more than make up any speed difference anyway. I just really hate to drop $416 on ram and end up having to throw away the 4 sticks of 128mbPC1066? I gotta remember to thank Alienware for shipping my system with 4 sticks of 128mb ram instead of two sticks of 256mb ram. Little things like that result in lost return customers. I also do regret not having gotten a DDR board now as it doesn't look like RDRam is going to drop in price anything soon.
