July 7, 200421 yr hi guy's just finished formatting my system for the upteen time to try and get fs to stop stuttering&pausing.anyway i installed dx9b and proceded to do the test and just notice inthe 3d test the dx cube is going really fast in both tests is that normal.sys-p42.8,p4p800se,1024mbddr400 computer match,9600xt256mb radeon,xpsp1.guys i just don't know what to do about this fs problem fps are fine between 27--30fps locked at 30,video card settings 6aa,16af.most setting in fs set at average except for autogen which is off.all the lastest drivers cat4.6,stuttering mainly when taking off looking at 2d panel the looking out the left&right&when you throttle up it pause for a split second going along the runway.
July 7, 200421 yr Hi,To stop the cube from spinning really fast go into the Desktop Display, Settings, Advanced and then to the 3D Tab. Move the slider 'Wait for Vertical Synch' to 'Always On'.The stuttering and pausing could be caused by a lot of things. Try unchecking 'Render to Texture' in the sim and make sure you have T&L checked. Do you have a level of 'Filtering' selected n the sim? What joystick are you using? Do you have Fast Writes on or off? Whatever stting you have for Fast Writes try the opposite setting. My thought is that if you are using the original MS Force Feedback Pro joystick then that could be your problem. If you I think there is a setting to turn the Force Feedback off. Try that. You might want to back off on the AA a little. Down to 4x or 2x AA. What resolution are you running the sim at? I have a Radeon 9700 Pro and run the sim at 1600x1200 with 4x AA. Speaking for myself, I don't think I would consider trying 6x AA even if I ran at a lower resolution. You do have Anti-Aliasing unchecked in the sim don't you?If your sim is just pausing for a little second when you look left or right ONLY then this may be normal and may depend somewhat on what aircraft you are using. Are you using the same aircraft all the time? If so what aircraft? Does it still pause for second if you look left, go back to forward view, then quickly look left again? My question is does it pause the second time you look left?If you are thinking that setting up FS2004 to run properly is a somewhat complex task then you are thinking correctly. ;) I have another game I like quite a bit although I haven't played in a while now, Battlefield 1942. But FS2004 sure ain't no BF1942. :-hahRegards,Jim
July 7, 200421 yr Author jim thanks for the reply.res is at 1024x768@85mhz,ch fs yoke,ms sidewinder 2,render for texture is off,aa uncheched in sim,tri on in filter,it seems to stutter when you look out at the ground tex&scenery like a heartbeats,(low alt)then get better as you get higher .going back to 4xaa,16af is that ok,if i up the res i start to get flickering, fastwrite dose'nt make a difference.cheers mark :-hmmm
July 8, 200421 yr Hi Mark,Thanks for the answers to my questions. About the AA setting, that might not make much difference as far as stuttering goes, probably make more of a difference in actual FPS. Go back to 6x AA if you like it better and it works ok for you. Thought it might be good to have you try 4x for bit though and just see if that did anything. As for the stutters/jerky/pause problem, I'm not real sure how to help much more. Hopefully you do have the latest updates for WinXP installed from the Windows Update site. I take it you are achieving an 85 Hz refresh rate by using the Override setting in the ATI 3D Tab and/or in dxdiag. There are many more other settings to play with, such as the AGP Aperture setting n your BIOS. How much a difference playing with that setting might mqke for you I don't know. Turning mine up to 256 seemed to help smooth things out a little for me. Then there's a number of parammeters in your FS9.cfg file that can be played with and a number of other tweaks that I haven't mentioned too. There's a vast ocean of tweaks that can be done! Maybe someone else will have some more of an idea what the problem might be for you.Regards,Jim
