July 20, 200421 yr Hi all.I have a P4 2.4Mhz with 512Mb RAM (4 128Mb modules) and a GeForce 4600Ti. In the last days I have been thinking about doing an upgrade on it, buying more RAM and a new video card. Regarding to the video card issue I think the decision is easy, I would get a Radeon 9800 Pro at a bargain price, but the problem is the RAM.My system uses RAMBUS, which is veeeery expensive. To get my system to 1Gb (what I want) I must get 2 512Mb modules, and that will cost me around $500. So, the complete upgrade should cost about $750, and that puts me in a decision if I should get a complete new system or not. Sure, I can get 512Mb more for about $270 (2 256Mb modules), but the RAM will be then 768Mb, not 1Gb.Will I get a huge increase in performance just changing the video card?. Dont you think the 512Mb are not enough?. Can I run FS2004 smoothly with 768Mb of RAM?.Thanks,Pedro.
July 20, 200421 yr "Can I run FS2004 smoothly with 768Mb of RAM?."Yes, it can but you should make sure all uneeded background apps are disabled before flying. Ken Salter's FS9 Autostart work's perfectly for this.http://library.avsim.net/download.php?DLID=50630Hope this helps,Greg
July 22, 200421 yr Hey there. Why not invest in a new motherboard and DDR memory? This may be a good idea considering the price of RAMBUS memory. A new video card will not improve your FS performance significantly unless of course you go all out and get a x800 or something. FS04 is more cpu dependent than anything else. THe new graphics card will allow you to offload the graphics intensive stuff from the cpu which will allow you to increase the AA and AF beyond normal levels at no expense to frame rates. I have 768mb of ram, that is more than enough. I would not recommend upgrading beyond 768 because you will only see about a 10% increase in performance at most, hardly noticeable. If you increase your video card memory that will make a difference.
