July 28, 200421 yr Hi All,I'm no sure if this is the proper forum or not; but I have an issue with an "el cheapo" pc I just got, and I've never seen this before.I got this pc as part of my plan to build a multi-pc flight sim setup. It has an nForce2 chipset with an on-board GF4. It also has a (supposedly) 8x AGP port. The port functions. I can plug my 9600 Pro into the port, and get video; but it is operating in PCI mode (which is not that big a problem with a 128 Mb card). There is no where in the BIOS to set anything related to AGP (Aperture, accel, etc.), apparently no AGP drivers, and definitely no AGP acceleration.Has anyone ever run into this? Is the on-board video the problem?I'm perplexed, and so far "tech support" has been unresponsive.
July 28, 200421 yr Hi SoarPics,Thanks for the response.I have installed the latest nForce2 drivers from nVidia.EVEREST reports the motherboard as K7M-NF18GAfter some more searching I think that the BIOS has been purposefully cripled...
July 29, 200421 yr I just checked the FIC site and they have no BIOS update for your board. But the most important quastion now is... how do you know the vieo card is running in PCI mode? Also, you should check in DirectX to see what it is showing. Click on Start>Run> type "dxdiag"> let the Diagnostic Tool page load, then click on "Display". In the "DirectX Features" section all three features should show "Enabled".You can also quickly check what SmartGart is showing... Start>Run> type "smartgart". Check to make sure that all settings are "On".Cheers,Greg
July 29, 200421 yr Yeah I've had no luck on the BIOS front.I'm way ahead of you on the DirectX/Smartgart checks.Dxdiag shows AGP tex accel as disabled.Smartgart concurs. AGP reads are disabled (and writes too, but dont care).I'll probably wipe the machine clean and start from scratch. It's destined for WideFS duty anyway...Thanks for the input.Cheers,
July 29, 200421 yr You could force the GART drivers to install. Inside the nVidia folder (mine's located at C:) is the GART folder. It holds the .exe.Greg
July 29, 200421 yr Ed, have you set the display adapter to 'AGP' as primary display adapter in your bios? It's usually defaults to PCI... Maybe..? Good luck and kind regards Jaap
July 30, 200421 yr Well, a new image solved the issue. Wiped the drive clean and reinstalled. I believe the problem was caused by an unstable upgrade to XP Pro. There was a faulty memory module installed during the upgrade that caused many problems. I had taken it out and forgotten about it.Got to install FS9 now and see how she does, now that the system is stable.Cheers,
