August 24, 200421 yr Hi folks, just bought my new VGA :-jumpy it's an ASUS A9800 Pro Radeon 9800 XT AGP 256MB DDR.Have never owned a Radeon based video card (actually it's an ASUS GeForce4 Ti4200); can anyone Radeon experienced suggest which driver should i install? Catalyst, DNA, there is a difference? :-hmmmWhich is the most suitable procedure for switching from NVidia to Radeon? Thanks in advance for helpingLuigi ;-)
August 24, 200421 yr Make sure that all your previous (NVidia)drivers are off the drive... you can use Driver Cleaner http://www.driverheaven.net/cleaner/ then just download the latest catalyst from ATI 4.8 if im not mistaken ..Thats what i did and have very sweet performance..also check your mobo drivers and directx and the smartgart tab within the driver settings more on that in is in one of the forums here... with everything upto date.. you'll run fs with a nice card. ps if you wanna tweak it more like enable SSE extensions etc then you can get Rage3D http://www.rage3d.comBrianAMD64 3200 - ASUS K8V SE - ASUS RADEON 9800XT - SB AUDIGY 2 - 1.5GB CORSAIR XMS - RUNNING XP RPO ON A 320GB BUNCH OF SATA DRIVES
August 24, 200421 yr Hi Brian,Catalyst 4.8 full and Directx 9c are ready on my destop :-hahConcerning MoBo drivers cannot find anithing but Bios updates at ASUS site (P4P800S SE Release BIOS 1006).Can you please tell me what is smartgart table :-hmmmAfter deleting NVidia Display Drivers via Control panel what should i use: 1. Detonator Destroyer (detdest.exe) or better 2. Driver Cleaner 3.2?Then i have to shut down my PC and replace the video card, i suppose :-coolAfter that? Drivers, utilities, Directx? In which order? Thanks in advanceLuigi ;-)
August 24, 200421 yr Use Driver Cleaner - it works well. You won't have to reinstall Direct X( I assume you already have it installed) unless you are upgrading from an earlier version. For mobo drivers - you can try here - they have links to almost all mobo drivers.........http://www.motherboards.org/mobot/drivers/Dave
August 24, 200421 yr Concerning the bios.. i see you allready have the latest version checked the site too for you and couldn't find anything more recent either.. so no worries on that.. the only thing you have to check in your bios is an option for Fast Writes.. some say turn it off.. others leave it on.. so try and see what performance you get.. if however you do turn it off in the bios.. make sure that your smartgart tab says it's off see the image below..as far as directx...install it.. has some benefits to it.. pretty sure if you have done all they above.. turn off the running processes in the background.. do the cpu trick http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...d=230&mode=fullfire fs up .. and see how well it performs.. like i said you can use Rage3D to turn on some addtional features of your card...http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/89025.jpgAMD64 3200 - ASUS K8V SE - ASUS RADEON 9800XT - SB AUDIGY 2 - 1.5GB CORSAIR XMS - RUNNING XP RPO ON A 320GB BUNCH OF SATA DRIVES
August 25, 200421 yr Thanks a lot my friends. After a reboot in safe mode i uninstalled NVidia old drivers, rebooted and ignored twice new hardware message on next startup. After that installed ATI Catalyst 4.8 Full, rebooted, and finally i could install DirectX 9c over my older 9b (never did a DirectX uninstalling :( could create problems?).And finally, onto 3D preferences in ATI control panel where i hopeful maxed all the sliders except Vertical sync.(half the way) and TRUFORM (always off); i also disabled FAST WRITE in SMARTGART table (my PC asked for a reboot). In my MoBo BIOS cannot find any FAST WRITE entry.Tomorrow i'll also try R3D Tweak :-coolWhat i need now is a colours tweaker to enhance DIGITAL VIBRANCE: any suggestion?cheersLuigi ;-)
August 26, 200421 yr Hi Brian, couldn't attach a .jpg to message i sent you before; here i am, and also my VGA specs. It's same card as your :-beerchug Now, can you be more specific on OC settings?ThanksLuigi ;-)http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/89194.jpg
