out of memory question

Featured Replies

Hi everyone! I have a memory question. (agian) I was playing flightsim the other day and I got a 'out of memory error'. I am running 1 gig of ram! I started using a small program to monitor the ram. While I'm playing I run around 90% of my ram being used, sometimes up to 95%. Is this a setting in window that needs to be changed? I'm mean really, 'out of ram' - What is this a commodore 64! :-grr . Does this mean that more ram would work better and so many people ask?HuggsKittiex:)~ This system is: AMD 64 3500+ 939 ASUS A8V Deluxe with wifi GCorsair TwinX1024 3200 XL Pro 2 36gig W.D. Hi Kittie,The bad news is that your very nice system is completely FUBAR'd! Out the kindness of my (very big) heart, I'll fix it for you. Just send it to me and I'll have it all squared away and back to you in 6-8 months. LOLSeriously, though, you should check JoeW's post #7 in this thread: http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...ing_type=search. You have a killer rig there, one that as I recall you only recently received. Should be running just fine, so I suspect the problem is an incorrectly placed Landclass file.Hope this helps,Greg

:-lol Okay I laughted on that one. Thanks Greg!I will check out that post. I have added some more scenery lately so that could be it. Other than that the system ROCKS! Even in Real weather or really bad stormy weather landing in Chicago with traffic at 100% I would average 20-30fps landing.HuggsKittiex:)~ p.s. this system is on it way to you for fixing. lol ha

"p.s. this system is on it way to you for fixing. lol ha"That's cruel... really cruel! :-) Hope you get it sorted. I'm sure the problem isn't your system... it's very nice. I'll be building a 939 based system later this year, and I look forward to what it will offer in performance.Cheers,Greg

I'm sorry, I don't mean to be cruel - lol :-wave Okay, I read the post on memory problems in Landclass (memory leaking). That stuff is way over my head. I have no idea what they are talking about or how to fix this. I think this is what's causing the problem. I am using the Toronto 2 scenery and Ontario class scenery. In both the scenery folders there is a file with a _LC.blg , is this what needs to be changed or moved? This might be the problem. :-hmmm HuggsKittiex:)~

"In both the scenery folders there is a file with a _LC.blg , is this what needs to be changed or moved?"If there is a Texture folder associated with the Scenery folder (sitting next to each other when your view them in Windows Explorer) then that is not good.Move those two offending Landclass files to another place. You can easily make a folder for them in the Addon Scenery folder. Simply create a new folder (name it whatever you want) and then move those two files there. DO NOT create a texture folder associated with them. That is the problem.Don't be concerend when FS9 shows "New Scenery Added" progress bar the next time you enter the sim. You will then have to add the 'new" scenery using the standard procedure in the Scenery Library.Greg

Okay, I think I fixed it. I used Flightsim Manager and the problem went away. Those files did come up as trouble. The only thing I'm still not sure of, in the add-on scenery folder 'Ontarioclass' there are sub folders with a scenery folder and texture folder, is this right? I found a file with the _LC.blg in the scenery folder. Is this what should not be there?Everything is running smooth now!I just cranked up the video card to 6x AA and 16x Anisotropic filtering. For some reason I get better frame rates with cloud detail on medium high. (around 20-40fps)HuggsKittiex:)~ This system is: AMD 64 3500+ 939 ASUS A8V Deluxe with wifi GCorsair TwinX1024 3200 XL Pro 2 36gig W.D. "I found a file with the _LC.blg in the scenery folder. Is this what should not be there?"Yep. Because there is a texture folder with the scenery folder you are getting the memory leak.On the cloud setting... 100% will give you all 3D clouds (I prefer this). Any percentage lower than 100% will mix 3D and 2D clouds accordingly. I don't care for the 2D clouds, though they do save resources (thereby increasing your FPS).Greg
