September 7, 200421 yr Hi all! After months of error searching, formats, etc I have finally pinpointed my strange FPS drop error in FS2004. In cooperation with Michael at FSGS, I have done some extensive hardware testing rgd systems and interrupts (hereafter called IRQs). The result is astounding!. I have never seen this solution to stuttering FPS in fs any other places, but I have seen many forum posts with excactly the same error symptomps as I had.Description:In Flightsim, regardless of Display setting, type of VGA card, type of CPU there is a FREQUENT drop of FPS; Every 5-7 seconds FPS drops about 50% for a short second ore two. It can be a bit hard to discover, but once you notice it, its annoying as hell!. Most users lock the FPS at 25 - 35, and doesnt notice this, but as soon as you load more complex aircraft and scenery, that results in FPS is down to your locked state (eg. 25), I garantee you will notice the frequent drops down to 10 fps.!Solution:My problem occured because two of my USB host controllers were sharing IRQ with my VGA card. In new ACPI HAL environment, sharing of IRQs is inevitable, and seldom causes any trouble at all. I successfully reproduced this issue on 2 other computers with different setups. Be very careful what USB units you plug into the USB ports that have the same IRQ as your VGA. In my case I had connected the CH USB yoke and pedals into theese ports, and this was the core of my problem. By moving the CH gear to an external USB HUB mounted into one of my other USB slots, that have different IRQ setting than my VGA, problem was completely gone. It seems the signals on the USB is interefering with my VGA card. You may also encounter common issues with other USB units in this port. be aware how "active" your USB unit is communicationg with your system. Game controllers are more active than eg. a scanner idling. My systems specs for your notice:-MSI Neo FISR 875P mainbord-Pentium 4 2.8 Ghz 800 FSB cpu-4x512 Twinmos DDR3200 Ram CL2.5-Gainward Geforce 6800 GT 256 Golden sample-Western Digital 160 GB IDE drive-Hercules Fortissimo III 7.1 soundcardWindows XP pro english, with SP 2.Hope this helps other lost souls out there.Again: Thank to Michael at FSGS for your help!Freddy
