September 8, 200421 yr I have the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb graphic card with the ATI 3.9 drivers. Everything works well. The ATI web site states that an update to the 4.8 drivers should only be done if there is a problem. Is it worth updating to the 4.8 drivers? Will this increase FPS or the quality of graphics? Is there a downside to the 4.8 drivers noted by anyone?I would like to hear from anyone who has updated to 4.8 drivers, the impact on FS9, and any negative results noted.Thanks.Stanner
September 8, 200421 yr I can't recall which version of CATs fixed the screen pulsing problem (doing things within the sim like accessing menus and the like originally caused this screen pulsing last summer. The problem manifests itself by doing 3-6 screen flickers lasting approximately 1 second each pulse). If you get that screen pulsing upon entering a flight or while using the FS9 toolbar features while flying, then upgrading will resolve the problem.Otherwise, don't expect any miracle FPS and/or IQ enhancements changing drivers. The CAT's have always delivered good FPS and IQ in this sim.If it ain't broke don't fix it.Cheers,Greg
September 8, 200421 yr Has anybody noticed when using the toolbar, minimizing or opening something up in FS such as SquawkBox it slows down FS for 15 or so seconds while it reloads everything - I don't have this prob using a Nvidia Card, is there anyway to solve it?It doesnt happen in FS2002 either, just FS9Radeon 9700pro
September 8, 200421 yr Thank you.No I no longer have the flickering problem. That was corrected when I updated the ATI drivers to the 3.9 version. I will not update to the 4.8 version unless someone can point out an advantage.Stanner
September 9, 200421 yr I posted an analysis (see the thread link below) when I switched from 4.7 to 4.8 because I had read about 4.8 improvements in framerate for processor starved situations (i.e., FS9). Bottom line: small increase in framerate and IQ is decent. I've stuck with the 4.8 but if you're o.k. with your present drivers then it is a tough call. http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...7&topic_id=2700
