fs freezes since card upgrade

Featured Replies

hi and happy new year.was wondering if anyone might be able to help me.recently upgraded my graphics card to a BFG Tech NVidia GeForce 6600GT OC. wow.also had to upgrade my power supply unit to handle the cards 350 watt power requirement.everything seems to work fine. can play IL2 FB with nearly all settings maxed out no problem.Halflife 2 & Far Cry run fine as well with high display settings. The problem seems only to occur in flight sim 9.I can ramp up all the display settings (very dense) and with no traffic and no weather, and maintain 35fps.Then, it just freezes. no error messages or anything. With bad weather, it usually freezes after about 10 minutes. With clear skies, i completed an hour flight then it froze as i was nearing my destination. quite annoying really.I have 512mb ram, P4 2.6ghz, GeForce 6600GT OC, 80gig hd.Has anyone got any suggestions please?thanks.

Hi Andy, FS is something else isn't it? Besides your data, what kind of system are you using: Mainboard etc? Please be as specific as possible? Good luck and kind regards Jaap

thanks for reply.computer is an EMachines 810 with the following bits:Imperial im845G motherboard with intel chipset.512mb DDR PC2100 CL2.5 RAMIntel P4 2.6GHZJeantech 400w PSUBFG GeForce 6600GT OC80Gig HDCant think of anything else.Fs has never done this before despite me trying to get the best display quality that i possibly can. I'd just get poor frame rates. Now it runs fine and suddenly it stops. have to turn computer off the bad way.hmm.

Hi Andy, hmmm too! My first guesses would be warmth or an overloaded PSU. You said it didn't occur before the upgrade. Was this the only thing you changed? What did you use before? AFAIK, there are some quality issues with some 6600 cards. Therefore an exchange might also be an option? I'm sorry, I can't offer any further ideas. Good luck and kind regards Jaap

thanks for the suggestions.I've been monitoring the temp of the graphics card and it seems ok.it seems odd that it will run some games quite happily, just not fs9. mind you, i've been flying captain sims 707 quite happily with no freezes. only with weather set to clear skies tho.gonna try latest sound card drivers as i gather this can lead to crashes.strangely, just tried to load toca race driver 2 and it froze 4 times at the options screen! didn't even have to display anything!just to top it all, my rc helicopter packed up this morning - aaaaarrggghhh! thanks for your help jaap.
