Adding 80GB Hard Disk-advise needed

Featured Replies

I am adding a 80 gb hdd and want to move my entire fs9 to this new hdd. How do I go about it? This is how I thought about it please advise.1. Install another copy of fs9 in the new hdd2. uninstall all payware from the old fs9 and install again in the new fs9 directory3. move my aircraft, gauge, panel etc directory from old location to new locationWill this be the right way? I want to retain my old fs9-all aircrafts, panels, sceneries, gauges etc.

You can simply use the 'move' option available in Win XP to move the whole folder across to the new drive. You will need to go back and recreate any shortcuts that you had, but that is quick and easy enough, and you should find that everything still works just fine! If you use a lot of add-on's such as active sky, active camera etc you may need to uninstall then re-install them -I honestly can't say because I've never used 'em!!I used the 'move' option a couple of months ago after a serious system failure (PSU died taking out the mobo with it!! New motherboard forced fresh Win XP install). I had FS in a different partition to Windows anyway, and after re-installing windows, I decided to move a few things around to better use my H/D space. FS9 worked just fine. If you curently have your FS9 folder compressed (under NTFS) then you'll need to recompress it after the move.Good luck!

Will the "move" option work for add on programs like pmdg etc? and is this "move" option simply the right click "move" thing or something special in XP?

The 'Move' function is indeed using the right-click method, although it is also available from the left-hand side-bar in Win XP.As for affecting add-ons like PMDG; well, that's where you'll have to recreate links to continue to use the setup fuel/weights/pax options, but if you're happy to use the default FS9 aircraft setup menu, then the PMDG will still work fine. If you use other programs such as TTools, Afcad2, etc, then you'll just have to point them to the new location of FS9. It's fairly basic browsing from within the applications' menu's, so it shouldn't give you any headaches!Since moving my FS9 folder to the other drive, all my add-ons still work fine; PMDG, PSS, PAI, etc.
