radeon 9600 advice needed

Featured Replies

need some help with the settings on my new radeon 9600pro. i have an amd3000 and 1 meg of ram plus a 40 gig HD. i have AA set at 2x, anisotropic filtering at 16x and set for high quality. in fs9 i have AA off and am using the default settings for scenery which is about mid to high range. i'm wondering what settings in the video card i might want to lean toward or stay away from. i'm not sure what settings might work well together and which ones might not. i don't have enough add-ons to be concerned with so there's no problem there. i'm wondering about the anisotropic filtering and it being set at 16x. i had it set at 8x and put the scenery sliders in fs9 to mid range and it wasn't bad at all. a little less scenery than i was used to but can live with it. everything seemed to run almost rock solid. i'm also experimenting with the performance settings or will be shortly. can anyone give me any pointers about any of these settings and which work better than other settings? i also don't want to overstress the card or computer. guess anything short of alot of stutters and jerkiness would be in order? thanks, william

More info about the drivers, please. And are you using Catalyst Control Center or the old Control Panel? You can try the AF at 8X and then bump up the AA to 4X to see how you like it. It's all a matter of personal preference.Greg

hi greg, i'm using catalyst version 04.12-2dversion 6.14.10.6497 and control panel is 614105046 it came with the driver i downloaded. i'm ok with AA at 2x, it looks good and doesn't hog as much power, may even free some up. i think it's the new control panel, the one that came with it didn't have as many options. thanks, william
