FS9 Locks up on first screen ... aircraft model display hangs and becomes garbled!

Featured Replies

Help! I don't know what's going on - FS9 loads and I'm at the screen where I can choose aircraft, time of day, weather and location, and the bottom part of the screen where the aircraft model display spins around first turns black, then in about 10 seconds, displays the aircraft and locks up and turns garbled and multi-colored.I even did a complete re-install and this still happens. I'm running a GeForce 4 Ti4600 on a Pentium 4 2.24Ghz custom system and have had no problems before today. Can someone lend assistance?

You might try a different video driver or just uninstall and reinstall the one you have now, that may fix the issue for you. If it does not try reinstalling Direct X. Wait, before you do either of those open up device manager and make sure that your video card, or anything else, does not have a red x on it telling you there is a problem with the hardware. If you need any further instructions or help just yell and I'll tell you what you need to know.Good luck!Philip OlsonI'm the luckiest man in the world, my girl friend has a yoke and rudder pedals! Thanks for your reply.I've just installed the newest version of the NVidia Drivers for the GeForce4, downloaded from the NVidia website, but no luck. I've also tried reinstalling DirectX 9.0c from microsoft.com, still no luck.Any other things I could try?

Did you take a look in device manager to see if there were any problems with any of your hardware? Have you installed any new hardware or software before this started happening? I do mean anything whether it is flight sim related or not. Also did you change any settings anywhere on your computer? When you removed FS from your computer did you manually delete the files that were left behind before you did the reinstall? There are a few files that get left behind that could cause you problems after you reinstall, they reside in the Documents and Settings folder and in your root FS9 folder. One other question is did you put your add-ons back in FS right after the reinstall before you fired it up for the first time? It might help if you try to fire FS9 up without any add-ons added so we know that this is not being caused by something you added to FS9. Go through that list and let me know what you have or have not done and then we can move forward from there.Philip OlsonI'm the luckiest man in the world, my girl friend has a yoke and rudder pedals! I checked Device Manager and didn't see anything out of the ordinary. What I did was rename my existing E:/FS2004 folder to E:/FS and installed a new FS9 into E:/FS2004. I didn't delete or move anything else. After installing the new FS9, I did not re-install any add-ons.

Ok, have you tried deleting your FS9.cfg file? If not try that, it is located in Documents and Settings and then whatever user name that you installed it underApplication DataMicrosoftFS9. After you delete it FS9 will rebuild it once you start the sim. Have you been able to play any other games that use Direct X? Can you remember any changes to your system at all before this started to happen? You might also check and make sure the fan on your video card is running and not full of dust, I suppose it is possible that this is an overheat problem. While you are at it check and make sure that your CPU is not getting hot either. Try those things and let me know. The more information that you can give me about how your system is currently running and configured as well as programs that you have running in the background and recent changes to your system the easier it will be for me to track down the cause of this problem. Actually there are quite a few things that could cause a problem like this. Things like your current desktop resolution and your FS9 resolution help too. Thanks!Well, yes, my CPU and video card have both been running pretty hot lately. My resolution is 1280X1024 for both desktop and FS9.I'll try the FS9.cfg thing first.
