PC freezing up... would like your viewpoints

Featured Replies

Seeing every now & then my PC just freeze up. Not just when I am in FS9 so I think it's not really related. Can find no pattern... good for several days then wham I get hit several times in a row.CPU & MB temperatures look good... have something like 8 fans in the boxUsing an Antec 480 power supplyHave 6 WD hard disk loaded, 2 CD players, so it is maxed that way.Symptoms:A) I can hear a clicking noise coming from one of the harddisks before it freezes, but not always.:( Once when touched/jiggled slightly one of the 12vdc connections to the back of one of the harddisk I heard the clicking and all froze up.My thoughts are it's either 1.a hard disk going bad2.a 12vdc connection to a hard disk3.the power supply is borderline maxed outAnybody else have this experience in the past... or any ideas? Just don't really want to fork over $150 for a Antec 550 watt powersupply if I dont have to or purchase a new harddisk if I can pin=point which one it is.thx

I would bet one of your HDs is about to die. I've had what you described twice and the HD died both times. First time was a disaster because I wasnt' properly backed up. Second time I Ghosted everything onto a new secondary HD and continued to use the first just to see what would happen and it died in about a week.Regards,Jim

Yepp, could be the HD... I went through a simular nightmare two weeks ago. A WD as well... Symptom: I could only run the drive for max 10 mins before locking up. Spent an entire day running to the freezer (yes, freezer!!) and back to the computer to retrieve all the data safely. Good luck and kind regards Jaap Dead drive count to date: 2 WDs, 2 Maxtors... PS: Thanks for the historic video, loved it!
