April 28, 200521 yr Brand new ATI 9800 Pro. Using Latest Catalyst 5.4's. Is there some other driver I am not thinking about that needs to be checked? In the snapshots notice the aircraft textures, tree textures and then then even the ground. Sure I saw this issue before but after searching for an hour I gave up.
April 28, 200521 yr Hi Pony, the planes look like good ol' Ikebana paper-aircraft! So far, I don't like the v.5.4 too much either. Good luck and kind regards Jaap

Although I have never experienced the problem you are having I would recommend using Catalyst Version 5.1. I've spent so much time experimenting with these drivers. After many trials and tribulations I noticed that Catalyst 5.2 and 5.3 really degraded the performance in FS2004. Catalyst 5.4 was not so bad but it still was not as good as version 5.1. Give it a shot.
April 28, 200521 yr ya know SuperFortress, I figured what the heck. I've swapped drivers as much as I swap aircraft so why not. And guess what - the 5.1's seem to be working great! Did a 1/2 spin around Phoenix. Usually the texture probs pop up in the first minute. Strange why the latest ATI drivers would not work with a brand new 9800. Who knows.. who cares... so long as it's working. I'lll just hold my breath as I put it through more tests throughout the day. Thanks for throwing the suggestion out there. ;)

Trust me it frustrated me as well because I am a person that always likes to have updated drivers for everything and when FS2004 starting having problem after Catalyst 5.2 I was really annoyed. ATI tech support was utterly useless and replied to me with some prepackaged response. Although I did not have the same problem as you, my FS2004 was stuttering, lurching, skipping, you name it with CAT 5.2, 5.3, and 5.4.Something else I noticed was that if you set your AGP aperture higher than your video card's memory, you will have stutters in FS2004. I have a 128MB 9800 PRO and when I set the aperture to 256 it definitely caused problems however any setting at or below 128 was fine.Lastly there's one other thing that I discovered a few days ago. Go to your FS2004 settings and set the FPS to UNLIMITED. The next time you start FS2004 go to settings again and although it's already set to UNLIMITED just click OK to accept it anyway. This may do nothing for you but I found that with CAT 5.1 drivers installed and this little technique makes a huge difference for me. I was skeptical and thought maybe it's a fluke but it works like a charm every time for me. To prove it I first load FS2004 and a flight WITH EVERY POSSIBLE GRAPHICS, WEATHER, AND TRAFFIC SETTING MAXED OUT. I perform a takeoff and you can clearly see that there's some stutter or lack of smoothness. I reload the flight but before takeoff I go into settings and just click OK on the HARDWARE section of display settings. Once Im back in the cockpit I go for takeoff. Now everything is silky smooth and even if there's lots of 3d clouds, traffic, scenery. I MEAN IT JUST WORKS! I have no idea how or why but I would love to hear some kind of explanation. I'm just happy I stumbled upon it by accident.
April 29, 200521 yr Very informative. However, my issue is not with studders... never really have a problem with those. So far after testing with the 5.1's I am getting freeze-ups (or system crash if that's what youm wanna call it). It's not a CTD blue screen. Just freezes and my sound starts looping. This happen with my previous 9800 card and using 5.4's. So I am not sure what is happening. Also tried it with render to texture ON and OFF but seems to make no difference. I usually lock my FPS when flying normally and the to Unlimited when in MegaSceenry territory. Oh well... the testing continues.
