Software mode X850XT PE

Everytime i load FS9 it says software mode - it looks like ####, every other game i have is fine, but FS wont find my gfx card?Any ideas?

Sounds like a driver issue for certain. Reload the drivers, then reinstall DirectX. I'm moving this to the H/W forum where it will get more attention and where it would be more on topic.-John

To clarify... DirectX should be installed before drivers. You should also allow the sim to rebuild your FS9.cfg file. Move (don't delete) the file to a safe place and then restart the sim. You'll have to reconfigure the sim settings, but rebuilding the file will rule out that it is the source of the problem.Good luck,Greg

I have always reinstalled DirectX after a graphics hardware upgrade, after the drivers have been installed--the practice seems to give DirectX a better chance of properly detecting the card and its capabilities. To date, and over the installation of four different graphics cards this practice has caused me none of the odd headaches that seem to crop up. If it were a simple driver upgrade, I wouldn't reapply DirectX. In this instance, it appears the user has added new hardware that DirectX isn't properly detecting.-John

I'm not sure about nVidia cards, but the ATI card that the OP has can not install the drivers until DirectX is installed. ATI clearly states that DirectX must be installed first, which is why I made my resommendation (best to follow a manufacturers install routine even when redinstalling over existing stuff).Regards,Greg

Greg,I am assuming DirectX is already installed on his system. On a system with no DirectX, those mfr warnings obviously do apply.-John

Hi John,Can't agree with that logic in this situation. If something in the systen is FUBAR'd my instinct would be to follow the manufacturer's install procedure. Not worth arguing about (not that our posts have that tone). Hopefully the OP will get it sorted. Probably doesn't make much difference at this point (since, as you said, DirectX is already on the system). But if I were in his position I would install DirectX first followed by the video drivers. And a good scrubbing with Drivercleaner wouldn't hurt as well.Regards,Greg

"And a good scrubbing with Drivercleaner wouldn't hurt as well."Can't agree enough on that one :)-John

After a hardware upgrade its not necessary to completely fubar all your precious FS9.cfg settings. You can just remove the lines that identify the grpahics card and the settings. When you re-boot the sim, the card will be detected, you just alter the display settings for res & trilinear filtering and you're good to go.Allcott

"After a hardware upgrade its not necessary to completely fubar all your precious FS9.cfg settings."Not necessary, but might be a good solution to start with a fresh FS9.cfg given the fact that this is the only game he's having problems with.Greg
