August 1, 200520 yr Hello All, Well, its time for a new Vid card, and as usual I need help from the guys who know more about it than I do.Present system:ASUS P4C800-E Delux MB with P4 3.4 oc'd to 3.57 on air, very cool temps -- never exceeds 39degrees C under full load. 1 gig Kingston Hyperram PC3200, ATI 9800 Pro. Oc'd to 391/303 -- 480 watt power supply. I'm running FS with all sliders full and averaging 25fps. I know I should be pleased with this but, as always, we always want more.I'm open for suggestions to a vid card which is more update and can deliver more than the 9800 pro. any ideas? Price considerations stop at 375.00 US.Thanks in advance,Clay http://www.dreamfleet2000.com/gfx/images/F...ers/Dopke01.jpgClayton T. Dopke (Clay)Major, USAF (retired)"Drac"
August 1, 200520 yr Hi Clay, I'ld look at a 256MB X800pro or XL. Both should be available for less than the budget you mentioned. I fear you'll not be able to push many sliders further to the right as most of them depend more on the CPU than anything else (and as you probably know). On my end, the exchange of the 9800pro/128MB to a X800pro/256MB 'only' lead to further smoothness (@1280x). Looking at the min/average/max framerate-counter, this swap resulted in identical max but higher min/average fps. All in all and when comparing the 2 a.m. cards, I believe the 256MB made the biggest difference at this resolution. Hope this adds to thoughts, good luck and kind regards Jaap
August 2, 200520 yr I went from the 9800PRO to the 6800GT to the X800XL.....the 800xl is a good card, plus it has video in/out.I'm running FS9 pretty maxed, except clouds,of course,1600x1200 res and it looks really good. FPS still average from 15-60,depending on what situation you are in,so don't expect a big jump in FPS. I am running a P4 3 gigger, with 1 gig RAM,,my other games run much better than the 9800PRO also. I paid 339 USD,,a few months back,so it may be even cheaper now. The 850XT would be even better, but that card is more than your 375 cap. Your system looks pretty good, you definitely need a better card, and the 800XL will do the job....for now,at least!...............Stan
