Texture problem

Featured Replies

Hello,Lately I've had this odd texture problem:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/127570.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/127571.jpgAs you can see the textures are covered with dots of various colours, and it seems to affect all kinds of textures in FS2004. Sometimes it takes a while for the problem to appear - it seems to be related to texture loading: the more textures to load, the more corrupted textures I get.I have a GeForce FX 5950 Ultra, currently with 78.01 drivers, but I had the problems with earlier drivers as well. I used Driver Cleaner Pro to make sure I got rid of any old drivers before installing new ones.I have tried most combinations of resolution, graphics settings in FS, and Nvidia settings, but nothing helps.

I don't think it's a texture problem. I think it's your video card. Either a driver issue or the card is going on the blink. :(

Thanks. :( How can I find out if it's the card or the driver?Martin

Hi there,I have had a similar issue when my graphic card died. I don't want to scare you, but it did look similar to your first picture with the exception that my spots were yellow. It turned out to be an issue with the graphic card memory. I could confirm this by underclocking the memory and going back into the sim to check for artifacts like the ones above. When I underclocked the card about 50 Mhz the issue didn't appear anymore. My advise would be to try the card in other games and see if it happens there too. I found the issue was even worse in open GL applications with colored spikes covering the entire screen. If you don't have any other games you can get 3D mark for free here:http://www.futuremark.com/download/If you do see issues in 3d mark and/or other games that you can assume it's the card's hardware (as you already tried different drivers that can be ruled out).Next step would be to underclock first the GPU and then the memory and testing the results for artifacts each time.If the issue appears to be the GPU than you should open your PC (if you are comfortable with that) and check your graphics card fan for dust, general operation (still working?) and last remove the fan and make sure there is enough grease on the GPU die.If the issue appears to be the memory or your above steps couldn't fix the issue with the GPU the card is probably on it's home stretch. You could try ram heatsinks but it didn't do any good for me.Generally you should make sure that your case has good ventilation...That's all the advice I can think of for now.Hope you find the problem and it's fixable :)Cheers,Alex

Hi Alex,Thanks a lot for your suggestions - sorry, I didn't check back on this thread until now.The other day I found out that I have the same problem in LOMAC, where it was obvious that the higher graphics settings I chose, the more artifacts I would get.How would I go about to underclock the card? I've never done any clocking before, either under or over, and some googling on the subject didn't help much. The GPU temperature looks fine at 52 degrees, but I guess it doesn't hurt to check the ventilation as well. Thanks again for your help,Martin
