October 14, 200520 yr Sorry if this is a duplicate post but I couldnt find exactly what I wanted to know. I am installing a Radeon X800XL and wandered which version of the drivers I should go for. My previous card was a NVidia 5200 FX and I spent plenty of time experimenting with different versions of drivers before settling on one particular version and I thought this time it would be a good idea to ask what your experiences are before installing.BTW is there anything I should bear in mind when I uninstall my NVidia drivers? I would hate to leave something behind that would interfere with my Radeon card. Many thanksAndrew Brownhttp://www.gordiusfs.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/
October 15, 200520 yr Hi Andrew, since nobody has replied so far I'll do it. :-) And I must inform you, that I haven't used a Geforce for quite a while. AFAIK and as you probably guessed, it's very important to remove all the traces of old card on your system. Tools which can do this are available at the known sites like guru3D.com etc. I wish I could point you to a specific one, but unfortunately I can't. Nevertheless, all the best and I wish you heaps of fun with your new display adapter. Kind regards Jaap
October 15, 200520 yr Andrew.............If you haven't done so already, first go here http://www.drivercleaner.net/Get that program (driver cleaner pro)and be sure to read the readme,5 or 6 times if you have to,it is especially important to run it in safe mode. This will clear out all your nvidia files. You can then proceed to install whatever ATI driver you want,I am now using the Omegadrivers version 5.9 and they seem to work pretty good for me in FS9 on my P4 3Ghz machine.I also have the 800XL. Also, don't forget you need to get the WDM drivers for the video in/out functionality on this card. You can get them from ATI or through a link on Omegadrivers site here: http://www.omegadrivers.net/If that isn't confusing enough, you also need the Multimedia Center from ATI.This program enables the TV,Video,File player/DVD player on your card. If you didn't know, you can input video(from your vcr, camcorder, etc.)to the video card for recording. The DVD player is free, and out of all the DVD players I have tried,ATI's looks the best, for free, anyway. If this is your first ATI card,it will seem tricky, and it is.But once you get all the things tied together,it works well. Any questions, feel free to e-mail me or try here...Stan
October 15, 200520 yr Thanks for all the advice. Card has just arrived so time to start the uninstall of the drivers etc. Hopefully I will be back soon :-) Andrew Brownhttp://www.gordiusfs.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/
October 15, 200520 yr I followed all of the instructions very carefully but have been left with a tring of problems ;-) I seem to be having a problem getting my FPS down into single figures, all of those jagged edges (antialiasing) have gone and textures have improved vastly. Hmmmm, I wonder where those stutters went! Oh well looks like I will just have to tolerate no stutters high FPS and smooth edges ... wahay! Thanks again :-DAndrew Brownhttp://www.gordiusfs.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/
