Hyperthreading

Featured Replies

I have read on various forums that disabling the hyperthreading feature within the intel P4 can actually make FS9 run smoother. Now, please bear with me being that I am not very computer literate, but does anyone know if this is true? And if it is, how does one go about disabling this feature while running the program. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

No, it's not true, with one possible exception. That exception being if you are using an old version of The RealityXP GNS530(GPS) gauge ( http://www.reality-xp.com/ ), or the Flight1 Meridian aircraft, which comes with an old version of the RealityXP GNS 530.Even then, rather than turn off HyperThreading the better option would be to set the processor affinity of FS9 to CPU 0. In other words, start FS9 while making sure you have the default Cessna 172(with no RealityXP GNS530 added on to it) selected as your aircraft, then ALT+TAB out to your desktop, then press CTRL+ALT+DELETE to bring up the Task Manager, and then finally use it to set the processor affinity of FS9 to CPU 0 only.. by right-clicking on FS9.exe in the task manager, click on 'Set Affinity' and then uncheck CPU 1 so that only CPU 0 is left checked. Then ALT+TAB back to FS9 and you're ready to select any aircraft with the 'old' version of the RealityXP 530 GPS. Newer versions of the RealityXP GNS530 do not require any such fiddling around when starting up FS9.This is the ONLY circumstance known to me in which disabling HyperThreading will cause FS9 to run smoother. As far as how to actually disable HyperThreading altogether, it's a setting in your computer's BIOS. At least on most computer's BIOS's. It's possible some computers systems don't have the option in their BIOS. I apologize for feeling like I have typed enough for now that I do not want to try and explain how to get into your system's BIOS. But it might be in the manual for your system/motherboard or you might get instuctions on how to do it if your search the 'net.Cheers,OneTinSoldier

All that makes sense. Thank you for the explanation.
