The FPS problem that drives me crazy

Featured Replies

Hi Everybodyi have a really annoying problem...I Just bought a Winfast Leadtek A6600GT/TDH 128mb (AGP8X) Graphics card to replace with my old AsusA9550 with dreams of more fun and quality on FS...Well, i installed the hardware as followed.I Run some games such as FEAR and Halflife which required a lot more graphics performance than the flight simulator...It was perfect, high detail, super high frame rates. But after that, i run the simulator to test the performance it was suprisingly low...I locked the FPS at 20,25,30 tried 4 diffrent versions of drivers. The max fps i've ever seen in the PMDG since i've installed the new card is; actually its really ok when you got the aircraft from the outside or the tower view, even the VC but in 2-D panel i usually have 5 to 11 frames per second.please help me about what should i do...Any little idea needed..Note: My Configuration: ASUSP4S800D-X motherboard.Pentium 4 2.0Ghz Processor.2x512 Kingston dual channel ddr 3200 rams.160GB Samsung SATA HDD.etc.Please Help, Thanks a lotBest WishesEfe

hummmm...Did you uninstall the old driver before loading the new one? Sometimes loading a new one over an old one can causetrouble. Might try uninstalling and do a clean reinstall. Also make sure all the GART drivers are working ok, if needed. In my case, those are intel drivers. Check the direct x diagnosticand make sure all the acceleration buttons are on. Also, some cards do some things better than others. I've been finding this out myself, although I'm still using the stock driver, and haven't tried any others yet. I was using a FX-5200 128, and switched to a 9800pro 128 aiw.I was expecting a big increase in *all* areas, no matter what. But I notice it varies...The cheap 5200 actually does prettywell at "buildings" etc, big cities, buildings, etc.. But it falls down on heavy clouds. Now the 9800pro, it seems to do big cities not much better than the 5200. The only real difference is I can run at 1600x1200and have about the same rate as 1078x768. There is something about a certain kind of texture, or building, etc, that dogsthe 9800 engine a bit...Not sure exactly what yet...But when it comes to clouds, the 9800 is 3-4 times betterthan the 5200..About what I was expecting. It's kind of weird that the 9800 kills the 5200 at clouds, but doesn't showthe same increase when traveling across a big city. But, maybethis can be improved with other drivers, and tweaking. It's bonestock right now, including the clock/mem speeds..So anyway, it seems some cards do certain things best, and maybethat new one is seeing something it doesn't do as well as the other games.. You also might try adjusting your direct x texture, filter, etc settings. I'm not familiar with the card you have. BTW, I love this TV, video, etc in this 9800 AIW..I've been playingwith it as much as the sim... :/ I'm watching TV in a tiny screenup top as I type this... BTW...I think my earlier problem was direct X related, not hardware.. :/ I uninstalled it, and then reinstalled, and seems mo better.. So it seems the 5200 is still good...But I'm glad I got the 9800 anyway...It eats clouds fer lunchcompared to the 5200, and clouds were always my worst problemwith the other card. I have a flight saved as a HD test, and my old card did it at 10-12 fps, at 1078..The 9800 will do it at 30-40 fps at 1600 res..:) Needless to say, I'm flying at1600 now, being it's about the same speed as the lower res'sin most cases. Need to find a good driver and see if I can hopit up a bit in the cities.. MK
