mouse problem

Featured Replies

Hi,I believe that my Dell Microsoft 1.2A PS/2 Compatible mouse may be causing FS to crash, certainly I am getting a crash from every longer flight. I have had error messages pointing to all different kinds of dll's including panels.dll and G2D.dll. There was a problem AfCad which I fixed and it solved a crash that I was getting at more or less the same point in a particular flight. I have tried updating the mouse software to the latest version from Microsoft but it has made no difference. I did a search on Google and found only basic advice such as defrag etc. all of which I have done. What happens is that if I don't touch the mouse at all, the pointer jerks up and down. Also sometimes when I do move the mouse or the wheel there is a single short beep, from the internal speaker I assume, since I don't need to have speakers or headphones connected to my sound card to hear it.I tried a different PS/2 mouse and although it was a more basic model without a wheel there did not seem to be any issues. What I would like to know is whether the mouse itself could cause these problems and whether it is possible to take it apart to see if cleaning the rollers' and wheel's sensors would help. I cannot see any screws that I could undo for dismantling. Or would I be advised to look elsewhere in the system?Any ideas would be appreciated.

I found the problem. It was a break in the cable near where it enters the mouse. I found the single fixing screw under the white glide to get it apart and was able to cut the cable and resolder direct to the pins at the connector.
