FS hanging up/hourglass flicker

Featured Replies

Evening allOver the past 2 months or so I have a problem when min/maximizing FS while starting other programs or adjusting them for FS (such as Radar Contact or ASV wx.) What happens is when I hit the ALT button to minimize or resize, and then hit ALT again to maximize the screen (FS), many times FS will hang and show nothing but an hour glass flickering. Eventually I just restart FS. System specs:XP HomeAMD 28001 Gig 2700 RAM6600GT w/ 128 RAM Agp videoIs this a memory problem you think, or what?thanks,Eric

Hey Eric, I wouldn't think its a memory problem, I have the same thing happening to me, and I just upgraded my machine, with new memory processor and mobo, It did it before I upgraded too with my old system, I am thinking it might be a video problem, Just so happens I went from a 6800GT oc to a 7800GTX, And both had the same problem, maybe one of the fs dll. is not working well with the video cards. Hope we can find someway to fix this problem, maybe someone can help??XP proAMD 64 4000+ San Diego @ stock 2.42 gig 3200 OCZ PlattinumXFX 7800GTX/256mb pcieGood Luck!HAKU

Man I am so sick and tired of this. I have done everything I know to do short of changing hardware or reformatting. I just tried it again, with this time I only had FS running, then starting RCV4 and then it hour glasses perpetually on me. In fact, when I click on the FS button down in the task bar, the screen wont even refresh showing me the sim visuals. I check task mgr, the CPU's pegged to 100%. Why? I think the pc started doing this a few months ago when I was using ASV one day for weather. It's like anything else just kills my resources. I have also had random reboots for months and months now. Not sure if that's a power supply, heat, or software problem. But back to this. I dont think it's inherently Radar Contact, simply cause it did work yesterday, but now for some reason it wont. Eric

Hi Eric,This used to happen to me all the time but not lately. It has been so long ago that I'm not sure that I remember what fixed it but let me throw out some suggestions.I remember Pete Dowson chasing this problem. Do you have the registered version of FSUIPC? If not you might want to research that.Have you installed the FS9.1 patch? That might be what fixed it for me.Finally, if all else fails here's what I discovered. If I used the "Windows" key (the keys with the Windows flag on it, just outboard of the "Alt" keys) to minimize and maximise FS9, then I would not get caught in the perpetual hourglass loop. Try that and see if it works for you. R-

Thanks, I never used the windows key before, but I used it, and it works great! However, I found an issue with FSHotSeatFX and now I believe it's fixed. Seemed like once I fully uninstalled that program, my entire FS worked better, not just FS and Radar Contact. In fact, I was able to run FS, ASV5, and RCV4 with no hangups at all as soon as I deleted a file at the bottom of FSUIPC related to FSHotSeatFX.thanks,Eric
