December 31, 200520 yr Hi guys-I just updated the bios on my flight sim desktop, and I got a really bad failure of some kind. The computer says "BIOS ROM checksum error" at startup, then asks for boot disks. I put in the recovery CD, and I can hear the CD spool up, but then the system freezes. I've tried hitting F1 and all the other commands to enter the bios, but it won't let me.The bios update was recommneded by the manufacture and was a windows install. The installation was fine, and it said it had to be rebooted. Now this.....Any advice?Mike
December 31, 200520 yr More info would be helpful, specifically which motherboard and what Windows app you used to flash the BIOS.The first safest thing to do is reset CMOS. Your motherboard manual will show how to do this (usually involves setting a jumper).Greg
December 31, 200520 yr I have a HP 3800 X2 system. I found the motherboard instructions on how to clear the CMOS using the jumpers. However, it had no effect. I spoke to HP support and they'll install a new MB for free.Could upgrading a BIOS really fry a MB?Mike
December 31, 200520 yr Too bad about your bad BIOS flash, Mike.It doesn't fry the MB, but something went bad in the flash so the ROM chip is belly-up. Some MB's allow for the chip to simply be replaced, but I'm not sure about that with HP builds. Good that they're making the problem right for you.Cheers,Greg
December 31, 200520 yr Well, hey...what can you do, you know? Thanks for the help anyway....I'm just bummed I have to wait until Jan 6th for the repair. A week without FS though :(....what to normal people do with free time again? :)Mike
